Although my own personal spending was down in March it wasn't all great. Apart from the £165 I paid towards a holiday and the £500 off the cc's, family cost me another £280. This month it will be another £500 off the cc's but the family will need another £400. Despite all this I should be able to boost the savings by another £500 so I guess being aware of everything spent is working or I wouldn't have been able to help my DD.
Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot.

:) After the news has finished, I will be having the back of my short hair trimmed by me muvva (can do the top and sides myself, can't see the back) and then tomorrow will be dining out wearing my new-to-me immaculate Jacques Vert jacket (£3.60 charity shop). I shall be accessorising with Grandma's restrung 'pearls' and a 50p handbag. My black shoes will be nicely polished and no one will ever know that they are, in fact, my only pair of shoes.:rotfl:

Today's heinous spending was 50p for a book whihc is part of a series I love, and which will then sold online fir a few quid (the same version goes from £4-£7).

    Hiya

I have had a FAB holiday and only spent the £60 that I had budgeted for which included: 3 meals out; entrance to a Stately Home; a Cornish Cream Tea (HAS to be done :rotfl: ); car parking; ye post cards (only 3!) and no buying of unnecessary rubbish!!! Not even in the chazzers because I only need some more side plates (others really are chipped and the glaze is going so NEED not want new ones!) I have loads of clothes and need to sort out wardrobe and get rid of stuff - NOT add to it!:rotfl:

So back on board: Objectives this week are: Make curtains; turnout wardrobe; turnout kitchen!

I'll let you know how it goes :-)

  • Well done to all the savings guys. I went to Plymouth on Monday for some shopping - guilt free due to a bonus and the first task completed, but I managed to stay within my budget of £150, get some essentials (underwear, new pjs, the writers market book) and managed to treat myself to some stuff to alter and a few crafty things. The rent came out yesterday (£406.16), the Sky tomorrow (£21.50) and today I ordered two pairs of glasses from glasses direct, for a total cost of £56.50, after having my eyes tested whilst I was in Plymouth.

I'm this close to finishing my second task actually, and I do have something in mind to get (still in bonus money not wages) but as it's a bidding thing on ebay, I'm going to see a) if I've actually finished the task and b) how much the bidding is at near the end

    Hi emslovesmicky

I have thought about getting my glasses from glasses direct but was unsure if to do so or not. Can I ask please if you have had glasses from them before? Do you have to give them your prescription? I am not sure how it all works if I am honest, so any advice would be great. I have had leaflets for a free eye test before. If I have them tested for free can I ask for the prescription and then order from glasses direct? My last reading glasses which where reactalight were over £200 . surely I can do better than that. That was over 3 years ago now so I know I should have new glasses or lenses by now.

    An update on little Langley!!!

She is back out in the garden with her feathered friends. Her leg is fully healed and she is no longer on medication. She did spend the daytime in our little bit of the garden. (I say little bit because the hens and ducks have the rest of it). She spent her days on the lawn or on our terrace sitting in a large flower pot sleeping or watching the others through the netting!! And she scratched around in the flower beds . She slept indoors under the kitchen table as there is a wooden bar underneath which she used as her perch for the night. I slept downstairs with her to make sure she was ok. She woke me up at around 7am every morning waiting by the door to go out chirping away saying "mummy time to get up I want to go out please". So I knew in herself she was ok besides her poor leg!! In the evening just as it was getting dark she used to come down from the terrace hop across the lawn and down the few steps, across the patio and tap on the door with her beak. Honestly she did!! What a character she is!! Anyway tonight she is tucked up with the others in their hotel tonight!! One very happy hen!!!

  • Hi, just nipping in to say thanks to Not Buying It we managed to save 50% of our take home pay last month and this month we're saving around 40% (assuming there are no emergencies). It's tight, but we've made some changes and stayed out of the shops, it's been amazing! We won't be able to save anywhere near that for the rest of the year but we have low expenses in March and April so we're having a massive push and doing all we can .

    Thanks everyone!
    Wow that's impressive:A:T
    Well done.:j

Loving this thread, everyone really appreciates the last penny not just huge savings. Truly inspiring.

Ok an on a bit of a mission and would really love the help of you truly frugal folk.

DD1 is going to be 6 in 2 weeks and has asked for a Furby Boom and a Lego Cinderella Castle anyone with any knowhow on saving money on these much appreciated?!

Also need new school shoes for both girls normally I get them in Clarks but anyone recommend a cheaper option but good shoes?

    Many thanks
    Beanie

    Try googling cheapest price for...

Or ask a couple of relatives who would normally buy a gift to chip in?
For shoes if you have a Clarks factory shop nearby its worth looking in there, or Brantanno ( although I've never had much luck size wise in there as mine all have high insteps! DD asked for Doc Martins a couple of years ago and I nearly fainted at price(and that was after much googling!) but she never has them off her feet and luck for us her feet stopped growing at that point:T
    Good luck with your searches!
