  • I too have a line full of washing hanging in the sunshine....towels and DD2's king size bedding :j

I need to seriously look at our finances over the next few months, both my girls are animal mad, DD1 is at Uni studying veterinary medicine and DD2 wants to do something animal based, vet nursing, zoo work etc and her dream would be to go to Thailand and volunteer for a month in a sanctuary for abused animals. The sanctuary has gibbons, elephants etc but the cost is about £2k, she knows she needs to get a job as soon as her A levels are over so she can help fund it but it sounds such a fantastic opportunity that me & her step Dad want to help as much as we can (no chance of biological Dad helping out).

I have a request for home baked biscuits/cakes as we have run out so I need to pop out and get some baking butter or something similar but I will keep my purse firmly shut and only buy 3 packs :D

  • Yesterday our energy provider told us that our monthly direct debit was being reduced by £20 a month as we've used so little energy this winter and we're in credit too, that, along with all the free wood from the demolition of a bunglow across the road and the fact that our log store is looking very healthy is making me very happy indeed!

(((HUGS)) candygirl, what a nasty shock but at least you know why you've been feeling so rough, as you say.

GQ It was spider planning Lynplatinum mentioned, but that sounds intriguing too, doesn't it!

moments_of_sanity What a lovely thing your DD wants to do.

Counted up what I spent on food for me and the animals last month compared to Feb last year.

Was 69.77 compared to 196 last year. Actually last months figure is slightly higher as I bought some food and alcohol for a gig I was going to, but at least Im not on course to spend £2000 this year on food and alcohol like I clearly did last year.

If I had the budget to spend that sum it wouldn't matter so much but I dont.

Snap to the pernicious anaemia, it's the reason I had to give up being a blood donner, I so wanted to match my uncle at 50, but not to be I had to settle for 30, once you get the right balance for yourself you will feel better, the 1 tip I can give is a small glass of orange juice, it help's the body absorbe iron better, and keep taking the tablet's, also 'listen' to your body if it want's to go barmy and sleep all day and your not at work then let it.hth

Still not spending, and more stuff is getting used up, at the mo it's the left over chocolate from xmas

Greetings fellow passengers on the good ship NoSpend. I 'saved' £49 today when the very large garage which was doing my service and MOT gave shambolic service - they did the free MOT (under the purchase agreement) then forgot to get my authorisation for the parts needed, and so the car just sat and sat and sat - as did I, in the customer area.

The service manager agreed that this was a very unfortunate waste of my time, and I pointed out it had caused me serious inconvenience - this all took from 8.50 to 2.30 to get sorted out. Result - no charge for the parts and labour needed for passing the MOT.

Needless to say I'll find somewhere else for next year, I think £49 was steep in any case for fitting a wiper blade and a new number plate light, but in the meantime the "abundance" saved is being stashed in the holiday fund! :rotfl::rotfl:

I have been AWOL( taking Shore leave). Last Saturday I had a girls day out at a craft show and ended up spending. I brought a piece of fabric and some buttons. If I'm honest I didn't need them they were just pretty things. Then to the shops for cards and an anniversary prezzie ofr OH. Anyway after that it was down to a branch of 'spoons for a bite to eat and a drink or two or three.
Sunday was relatively good just a bag of compost.
Then Monday a trip to the supermarket again this time I spent £30ish on food for Anniversary dinner and other stuff like fruit and yoghurts to make smoothies.

Today was spent at the local Hospital DD had to have several teeth removed so again spent on Car parking teas, Newspaper ect. DD is now at home feeling sore, swollen and sorry for herself but otherwise OK .
I now need to get back on track so please don't make me walk the plank for my transgressions this weekend. Hopefully I will be better from now on.
  • Hiya All

Thanks for the reprieve Capt Slowdown! :j

It was Spider Planning I referred to it is used to teach students to plan essays - you put the question in a central blob and then put down your immediate thoughts in blobs (in note form) around it with lines leading from the middle to each outside blob. Rather like a spider with many legs. then you number the 'legs' in the order which you think makes up the best and most logical order to answer the question in. It is supposed to keep you focused on the question and let you get all your thoughts down but answer logically!

As a problem solving device it can also work so I suppose you could use it to answer money planning questions!! I dont work teaching in a conventional way - I teach children excluded from or who self exclude from school - so I work freelance. It can be a bit financially precarious as most people only want you to work term time (37 weeks per year) and they cancel at the drop of a hat (tho I felt sorry for one set of parents who were made redundant within a week of each other). However, it gives me the freedom to work rewardingly with individuals who really need help - dont think I could hack a classroom with all the government rules and regs anymore!! (Sorry to babble on but I am on here cos I have to be careful with money which is not how most people see teachers and I didnt want you to think me a fraudster!!)

NIB today - got a YS set of rolls and reduced mince so am gonna make more of my own burgers so that when returning home late from working temptation to spend wont be in my way!! Yea for freezers and microwaves!!

Must ask you MrsLurcherwalker is that a pic of your beautiful lurcher??? SO looks like one of my previous dogs! Miss having a woof but my life is too mad for one at the moment! As I would get a rescue one that would probably need reassurance and retraining. Again NIB - kinda recyled dogs!! But in a good way. LOL
Have an NIB day tomorrow folks
Aim for Sept 17: 20/30 days to be NSDs  NSDs July 23/31 (aim 22) :j
