And we must not feel guilty if we treat ourselves with this money!!!
Absolutely! Just because I'm concentrating on essential purchases at the moment doesn't mean that I don't think treats are crucial. I didn't mention the Gu chocolate pots in amongst the essential purchases did I? Even at my level of income (negative, i.e. I'm partially living on savings) treats are important :)

    Hiya

Firstly - another James Martin fan here. Did anyone see is series on making decent meals in hospitals??? It proved that he not only knows how to cook the luxury stuff but also how to cost food and do ordinary meals. Like someone said you could imagine chatting to him down the pub.

I am trying to cost my meals at the moment. I was feeling guilty about 2 things till i ogt on here! 1) the fact that I am frequently in my PJs at 11am!! But lots of you guys are too :rotfl: and 2) that I keep on going over budget by going out or, more accurately getting a fit of spending when I am out!

    This is the overboard bit!!!

for example, yesterday I went out to a meeting in Birmingham (train fare will be reimbursed) budgeted for lunch £6.95 a couple of pints £6 and a Costa coffee for the train home £3. But oh no!!! Train delayed so I bought a sandwich £1.85. Then could not go to my normal station due to trains so needed more cash for taxi. Machines not working - nearby MnS food only outlet. Had to spend £5 to get cash back. Diet blown bought unnecessary choccy puddings as well as an on offer chicken thing so, with cash back (£10 for taxi) the cost was £17! So in all extra spends were £8.85 plus £10 for taxi - Nearly £20 because I had not thought to include a £10 emergency monies. Hopefully lesson learnt!!
Also did not buy stuff that was good for me or long lasting from MnS like salad and bread oh no!! Choccy puds and chicken Kiev - what was I thinking!!
Throw me a lifebuoy shimates and help me climb back on board and repair the damage!
Aim for Sept 17: 20/30 days to be NSDs  NSDs July 23/31 (aim 22) :j
NSDs 2015:185/330 (allowing for hols etc)
LBM: started Jan 2012 - still learning!

Went to the Elvis Experience is London this week. I only brought the guide that went along with it, the guide for his home (don't think I will have the chance to go there) and had some photos done (which I saved on). Did look at other items and put them back, added it all up and it came to around £100. They would not be used and cluttering up the flat. The guides and photos do not take up too much space and are nice to keep.

Done a small bit of decluttering this week. Have only brought what was needed this week.

Feel quite smug today as I avoided spending. We are having slow cooked beef brisket for dinner, but are out of potatoes, even frozen roasties are out of stock here. Then I got creative. Instead of a traditional roast dinner we are having the beef with various salad bits, including home made red cabbage slaw, and French bread which is cooking in the breadmaker as I write this. So no going out for potatoes and getting suckered into buying other stuff. I planned to do a top up shop tomorrow and am sticking to that plan, my list is all ready to go. If I can stick to food shopping just one day a week that has to save money!

The best bit about this thread is after Kondoing all the house and throwing out loads either to family or friends or neighbours ( then to the chazzer if no one wants them is you are very conscious of buying something which you land up having to find a place for dust it or even just look at it. I have had so many NSDs since this thread started in January but with money saved I have had a holiday in London and booked another holiday in April. Have bought 2 new sofas and next in line to be replaced is a bed a fridge-freezer and cooker. The last 3 items I should be able to afford within the next 2 or 3 months if I continue the same not spending.:THad family home this weekend and slowcooked a huge bit of roast beef and had it cold with loads of salad today. Got 15 meals over 3 days out of the huge roast( had to cut it in 2 to get it in the slowcooker);)It was £3 YS from Asd* at New Year

Coincidence indeed, grunnie! It is nice to think "outside the box" for meals sometimes!

Today I went to get some food shopping and spent £3.19 on fresh bread, fruit and one or two small things. I really have enough to last another week and my pelvis is bothering me just now, so pushing a trolley and carrying bags is not an option. Will take DH with me next week to stock up a bit and he can carry things for me. I guess while I'm pregnant I'll just need to do little bits of shopping at a time!

I did spend a bit at ikea yesterday on storage items for my wardrobe and the kitchen. Well worth it, cupboards are looking lovely :)

    Hi folks :)
I'm proud to announce 3 moments of NBI yesterday at the Knitting & Stitching show despite reeeeally wanting to spend
First I didn't buy any water beads (little beads you put in a vase and they swell up and hold the flowers in place) - they're such pretty colours and you can put an LED light in to make them even prettier. Nope, didn't buy.
Second, I didn't buy 3 paper mâche (?) cats and lots of coloured papers and glue to make replicas of my cats in pretty papers. Nope, not buying.
Third, I didn't buy a white blouse with indigo lacy jumper & scarf that looked lovely and would suit me. Nope.
I did buy a couple of jelly rolls but those are to make quilts for gifts so that was supplies, right?
So a pretty successful trip up to London including a walk back to Paddington through the park, no unnecessary spends, all thanks to this thread.
    Thanks, folks :D
