Well done on resisting garden centre spend,Picklepot.

Well OH's mancave came yesterday [shed] and the 'boy's' were very busy wensday and Thursday, so seeing as wensday was my day off I turned it into a baking day, the 'boy's' & OH have been happy as lark's 'cause I just took the baking tin down to them and left it, all the plain scones have gone, so has the chocolate cherry cake, but they did leave me a bit of the marmalade cake. What I need to replace has gone on the shopping list, other thing's like the small pot of marmalade will not seeing as it was part of a hamper I got at Christmas, if I keep it up I 'should' be able to fully shut the cupboard door in a month's time [Rat's! why won't the bl**dy laptop let me use the icon's?!]

Tomorrow I'm not going anywhere but the greenhouse, I'm making a start on my planting, and sunday I might just stay in bed all day well if the furry owner plays ball I can

  • Have to report a spend today - but it was planned and saved for, although a bit earlier than expected. Reading is my main pleasure but with arthritic hands holding books can be painful therefore decided to splash out on Kindle - and today got ad for £10 off basic model - so opened purse and bought one! :D
Am looking forward to receiving it and getting some of the many free kindle books I see people mentioning.:j
Only 2 NSDs so far this week - but have done my monthly shop so the rest of the month should be within expectations - purse now firmly closed.:T

:) I have spent 30p and gained 21p (roadkill money 20p + 1p) and also gained £3.40 from selling 3 tiny broken bits of gold for scrappage. Also paid for the line rental, but that's now it for the next 12 months.

Am making a meal out of things already in the fridge - it's roast beef and veggies so don't feel too sorry for me. ;) Tomorrow's plans will involve gardening and I may check out some chazzers, but I am being very descriminating in what I bring into the home.

Isn't it amazing how much money you save by Not Buying It? Who knew?:rotfl::rotfl:

moments_of_sanity, bravery against crickets isn't the issue, it's a case of the ones I can't catch which worry me. Had one of them in my sitting-room singing morning and evening for several days and I couldn't find it. Eventually it went silent so it either escaped or I have the husk of a dead cricket behind the furniture somewhere.:rotfl:

I enjoyed the patchwork group, there were 3 people there I already know.Resisted the hot cross bun with Lerpak. Can the not buying it thread incorporate getting rid of a few Lbs instead of £s?

I got the wool trousers ...and a cardigan and a white linen shirt.£6 doubt that would buy a leg of a new pair of trousers in mns.I have spent the afternoon shortening the trousers and shortening the cardigan sleeves.Very little else done today.

We are off to Bury tomorrow for lunch and people watching in the market. It is one of the few thriving markets I know of.Never buy anything but the cafe is amazing and sooo cheap. They have a branch in Manchester but with city prices.

The crickets reminded me of when a naughty boy in my class at school let the locusts out.It was pandemonium. He was stood laughing wide mouthed and one hit him at the back of the throat and made him sick.Divine intervention.

:j Too right !!! Little beggar. On 01/01/2014 I had an escaped locust in the flat. Beggar was huge. Trapped it under a glass. I can move very quickly at times. I decided therefore that 2014 was The Year of the Locust. :p

    Morning shipmates

Little Langley is still doing really well. She is mixing in with the other hens but still keeps her distance from a few of the bigger girls. Overtime she will be fully accepted!! There is always a pecking order with hens so she will get in there somewhere.

She looked as though she had hurt her foot yesterday but I could not see that anything was wrong with it although she did have a very little limp!! I have bathed it and checked to see if her leg is ok and everything seems fine. I will just keep an eye on her for a bit. Maybe she has jumped awkwardly off of something and slightly twisted her foot. I can't see or feel anything at this stage!!

We did well with our shopping this week or should I say hubby did as I was not well and could not go. He spent a total of £49.20 out of our budget of £50 per week. Clever man!!! He really is bracing this NBI with me to the full!! He loves the challenge too, which is great!! We are a team we really are!! I am so lucky, he is such a lovely man!!!

Gotta go chums got some catching up to do albeit slowly today!!

Have a good weekend whatever you are doing!!

Hi JackieO, Re: garlic oil. Not olive oil I know but butter is now being rehabilitated as OK in the diet so I though I'd share this tip with you. :)

When I get a surfeit of garlic, or I've a good harvest, I make garlic ghee. Instructions for ghee abound on the internet and in Indian cook books but what I do is peel all the garlic and generally mash or squeeze it into a pan along with the unsalted butter. Quantities??? At a guess around 2kg of butter and 3 or 4 heads of garlic, it depends on how big the heads of garlic are, how strong they are etc - I'm old school and more often than not cook by eye and taste.

I then gently warm the mix until the butter completely melts and then set it aside for at least 24 hours or maybe 48 hours to allow the butter to absorb the garlic flavour, (I may warm the mix a couple of times to stop it solidifying if the weather is cold). A word or two of warning here; garlic contains an acid that can remove skin if you peel enough cloves, (found that one out by experience), so take care, and don't be tempted to pop cloves of garlic into oil to make your own garlic oil as apparently botulism can occur.

I then make ghee as per all the recipes but you do have to take care not to let the garlic burn. I then pour off the clarified butter sieving out the garlic bits into small jars and store it in the fridge. Because the ghee is condensed butter (they used to sell that didn't they? ) you don't need a lot to give a nice taste and it also saves preparing garlic for each meal. I also use it to flavour other oils when I cooking as again you don't need much to get the garlicky flavour. I also do the same with the saffron I grow as it stretches the saffron a long way.

Stores for months and months in the fridge and is essentially dairy free as you remove all the milk solids :D

Morning, very windy here overnight and no let up yet

My last big shop at Aldi was 2 weeks ago and while I've popped into local shop for couple of little bits since then, I still have a full freezer and cupboard. Have had a rummage and have worked out a meal plan so I can go another week at least before going shopping again, also means I can stay indoors away from the wind :T only thing I willl run out if is fresh fruit but I have tinned pineapple so that will do.

suppose I should go put washer on and get dressed......but might have another cuppa 1st and watch a bit of James Martin :rotfl:
  • Hi, I'm still here lurking and reading.
Moneywise I've not done too well this month. I've had a rather large utility bill. I didn't expect it to be as much as it was and ive had to put £90 of my monthly spends money towards it. Which has now left me with no disposable money until payday in a weeks time.
I've enough money for food etc and of course savings, but I don't want to break into that. So im spending this weekend and next doing money free things.
I will report back next weekend but other than the utility bill being higher everything else is on track.
    I hope everyones doing well.
