since joining this thread I've managed to save enough to pay off my credit card ... Cleared the balance this morning :j
Next to go will be my natwest loan, I'm going to ring up next week and get a settlement figure, hopefully I can clear that with some of march's pay0 -
Well done all you money savers.I am not sure if we will have any spare yet.OH gets paid next week mainly with other monies coming in randomly- self employed. Will do the books next week.
Will you give me a shout when the next aldee voucher is due please candygirl.
I bought some compost from the tip today,Mr V paid. think it was £3 for a sack. Will get my onion sets planted tomorrow and dig some stuff up out of the garden.Strange I know but when we moved last time I left a cottage garden because the buyers admired it so.They have dug it up now for extra parking.I so regret leaving the most beautiful poppy,I have never found the same colour again. So I will lift some snowdrops and other things and plant them in a motley selection of vessels.
Went to get my glasses today, very pleased with them.Had a look in a few shops and didn't see anything I wanted to buy.I did have my free coffee from wa===rose.
Thank goodness I have got an appointment with my hairdresser. She cancelled when it snowed and has also been on holiday.
I am a big eebayer both selling and buying.I think Fb is taking over now,no fee and instant and in general higher prices too.I have got rid of so much stuff in the last 6 months or so.I am watching something on eebay now.Might make a purchase at the right price. The last people to view our house loved my furniture,it's ALL second hand, ornaments, throws, the lot.Even my smeg fridge.I ring the changes.Buy something very cheap,do it up keep it a while then sell it on.Some things I keep but only a few.I bought a dresser for 99p,painted it and sold it for £200.I think painted stuff will start to go out of fashion now though.Mid century stuff will be the next big thing then full circle to Victorian again!

Well. I have a big smile on my face:)
And it's not there because of anything I have done but because of everything my shipmates have done.
When I started this thread I never dreamed anyone would join in. I sort of saw it as a place for me to let off steam about selfish corporations and deceitful practice of those trying to grasp my money. I saw it as a place I would go to in order to remind myself not to buy unnecessary clutter and to make me think before I buy.
So imagine my delight when I hear my shipmates saying they have paid off 25% of their credit card because of not buying it. Or they have saved towards their holiday, or this thread has really made them think, or they have decluttered and not bought more. Or even that they just enjoy reading about everyone else's lives and like the friendly feeling of this ship.
Yep, I might not stay on the straight and narrow all the time but I truly delight in the fact that so many of you like bobbing along on this magnificent ship.
Keep it up shipmates. Because if nothing else, you truly make my day. Thank you.
Kindest regards

Three cheers for Cap'n Slowdown!!!:T:T:T
Seriously Slowdown, if it wasn't for you a lot of us wouldn't be saving/clearing debts/decluttering as much as we are. So thank you0 -
Good morning all.
Well I have been meaning to post for a couple of weeks but time flies! I have been reading along at the amazing achievements of the crew but following Slowdowns comment I just had to find a couple of mins for a post.
Some of you may recall I am unwell, and halve been out of work since November. I have finally received notice that my treatment will start at the beginning of May. It can be very hard keeping spirits up, but up they have been kept, in no small part due to following inspirational threads like this.
I have been getting my house in order ( literally and metaphorically). I am lucky to be in a job where I have felt no financial impact yet ( that will change sadly before I start treatment) but I have saved since Jan 1st £3000. Thus is a bit misleading as I previously overpaid my mortgage by £500 per month which I'm not doing for now. Nevertheless that's an additional £1000 per month saved in anticipation. This will make a huge difference if I can continue for the remaining two months of my pay, and will be the difference between worrying about pay cut and not before I am fit to return. The aim is to leave my current job by the end of this calendar year, so getting well is first priority.
Well done to all, and sorry to hear of difficulties of some
Have good days, will try to post more often
(Slowdown, I am always fighting corrupt/incompetent businesses trying to snatch my money - just think the thread broadly is more optimistic - will tell more amusing wins at some point!)

Two of my colleagues have just been given redundancy notice. They are funded differently to me so Im ok at the mo. One of them has just booked a holiday on a credit card even though she knew this redundancy was looming. I was asking if she has any savings or anything as I have an insurance that pays the mortgage for a year if Im made redundant and savings which would keep me afloat for a bit. She has none, paying interest only on her mortgage and leases a car
Edwink mentioned about Ebay for my DDs clothes. Ive bought quite a bit off there especially Converse pumps which I then resold as she grew out of them. Dont have a lot of posh clothing but decent stuff like Fat face Il have a go of selling. Gap has 75% off sales and now DD is an adult size 6 we pick up mega bargains, got £60 of clothes from there for £10 recently.
Added up my food spends for Feb as this is a weak spot and Ive spent £130 for me and DD over Feb and we eat well. Lots of fruit and veg (god bless Co op whoops bargains). Going to be naughty tonight and pop into Asda for pizza for tea but only that, will not look at the clothes!I have every possession I want. I have a lot of friends who have a lot more possessions. But in some cases I feel the possessions possess them, rather than the other way round0 -
Bexter. Hope your treatment is effective. Illness can bring on a lot of worry and stress. Hopefully your previous mortgage overpayments will give you a little peace of mind in this respect. Am sure we'll all be keeping our fingers crossed for you.0
