  • I have sinned today as I have spent!!! Mind you it's probably the most sensible purchase I've made in the last 50 years and I found some ladies thermal vests in Bon Marches sale. I've been moaning all this cold spell about being cold and have come to resemble the michelin man in the evenings (even more than usual) and been swathed in warm jarmies, dressing gowns, throws etc. as well as sitting as close to the woodstove as I've been able to get and still been chilly BUT not today, the thermal vest might not be a thing of great beauty or be a fashion statement but by gorry they don't arf keep you warm and no one can see them under your outer clothes anyway. Utter bliss is being able to sit in this unheated study typing this message and not shivering. long live thermal undies is what I say!!! £26 for 4 wasn't too sinful was it?

So Have I Tickets for a girls day out. At Least yours was sensible
  • I'm having a NSD today, just as well...I was naughty the last two days and bought my lunch from cafes :o and you know what? The food wasn't even that good! Must learn not to waste my cash...£2 for a cup of soup is just not worth it!

Off to the gym tonight. I pay £29 a month for membership, but I do go 2 or 3 times a week, so it is better than paying for individual sessions. After I have the baby in June I'm hoping to go back to running, I was a fairly keen runner previously but didn't feel comfortable to keep doing it all winter while pregnant in case I fell etc, so have been using the gym instead. That means I'll save £29 a month and all my exercise will be outdoors and free!:T

    Ahoy there:j

Always behind as ever.....:o Haven't been on here for a few days so am guessing there will be lots of inspirational tales to catch up on.

Still got my purse pretty firmly shut. Have been working rather than spending with a couple more cleaning clients taken on and working alongside Mr GBT at a business fair.

In my free time I've been tootling out and about visiting places and churches [I love history and this is a very low cost/free way of seeing wonderful buildings and artefacts] I do leave a contribution.

Still no books bought. Link here for lots of free downloads http://www.iheartintelligence.com/2014/08/31/free-books-100-legal-sites-download-literature/

Have been given some magazines by a chum and sent some others back her way.

Am most pleased to have discovered the discount fridge in our local out of town coop that I pass on the way home on a Wednesday. It's yielding some very good bargains. More cheap food experimentation done- this week made a pie with a potato crust topping that you add orange zest to and the juice goes in the pie filling. It needs a bit of tweaking still but very tasty.

Off for a short break next week- am taking a big box of bicccies, 2 bottles of wine and £35 to cover a meal out that are all Chrimble pressies I put aside. Other than that walking and visiting friends planned and have taken advantage of an online discount for the Kent Museum of Life.

    Morning chums

    Hope everyone is ok!!

Off to Ald* this morning as they have Organic 20Litre seed compost for £1.49 and Organic 40Litre multi purpose compost for £2.49. You really can not beat those prices. We do make our own compost but use shop bought for seeds to save us from the back breaking work of sieving ours.

Will get weekly shop in Ald* too. Have been budgeting for £50 a week for 2 of us plus hens and duck. So far we have managed to keep just below that so are really pleased with our efforts.

Have not spent anything since last weeks Ald* shop so very pleased with that also.

    Have a good day everyone!!

I have spent but in my defence it is for my horse who needs the item for medical reasons. it is a rug for sweet itch ie an allergy to culloides midge bite.
other than this am doing well. have resisted temptation to go to the cafe wit friends and buy coffee instead had them round here to coffee :-)
also resisted book buying a great weakness of mine and didnt go out and buy a block of choc.
have managed to add to the savings pot this month. have found the best way is to put something in immediately the salary is paid into the bank then review it on a weekly basis and add more even if its only £1.
  • Well Ive spent and saved although the spends were budgeted for. Went away at half term for a family break which mum paid for. Mum likes eating out which costs a fortune when theres 5 of you so my OH bought ingrdiants for 3 nights meals and cooked and I paid for a pizza night. This cut costs a lot. Mum was impressed at the savings and the fact she didnt have to cook.

Have started a spending diary to see how much I actually spend on food, petrol etc. Easy to fritter going food shopping. Have bought the Mirror for the Aldi vouchers so will make a list and go there.

Daughters birthday is in a couple of weeks so present shopping was the other night while town was quiet and parking is cheaper than the bus. Managed to persuade her to have mainly clothes which she needs anyway as growing loads (she will be 13).

Found some Tesco vouchers which were going to run out today. Got a new pair of work trousers with them so although I could have used them better at least they didnt end up in the bin and I bought something I needed.

Hrad work this not buying it.

    Hi Starandmoon

It can feel like hard work for some at the beginning. But, after a while you will start to reap the rewards for your efforts. Once you start having some money left over for treats/holidays you will begin to feel the hard work is really worth it.

Money spent on pets is essential. Your daughters birthday clothes is a great idea. Work trousers are also essential and if you had bought food shopping with the Tesc* vouchers you could have got the food much cheaper in Ald* so the work trousers were probably the best thing to buy with those vouchers.

You are doing great so keep going and enjoy the experience

    All the best!!

Thanks Edwink. Im pretty good with the old finances but do slip a bit at times. My DD is at an age were she is influenced by others. She has a friend who is spoilt so I have to try and show her that paying £80 for a pair of trainers isnt always the best way (not that I would ever spend that on trainers for a growing kid).

Our summer hol is booked and paid for. Really shopped around and have settled for a 3 star hotel which is in an area we know with a nice beach etc. A colleague said she couldnt possibly stay in anything less than 5 star and is paying almost double than us for less time away and putting it on a credit card! I dont even need any holiday clothes so apart from a bit of spends that will be it. I have a holiday saving account and a car one as cars love to suddenly break and cost lots!

Im sharing the Aldi shop with a friend as wont spend £40 there (only me and DD to feed and OH who visits at weekends) so busy sorting out a list.
