    Hi folk

Also since joining the thread I've been making a vat of soup and one of pasta bake every weekend, so DD and I always have a hot lunch at work and I'm less tempted to spend. That's working really well :T I could do with a few more ideas for soup though, for a slow cooker if possible - my repertoire at the moment is chicken & veg, and leek & potato - I need to branch out :rotfl:
    Cheers all

I do a tomatoe & veg soup, base is carton of passet[sp?] or tin of tomatoes, rinse out tin/carton with water and add it in the pan, put any veg I'v got, chopped small, and some dried herb's and leave in slow cooker till I finish work.

Another one I do is left over water from cooking mince beef or stew steak, add an oxo, onion, root veg excluding potatoe, and put a hand full of broken up spaghetti strand's, Italian mixed herbs and call it minastroni, cooking same as above, hth.

I am making leek and potato soup in the slowcooker for the very first time. Is it supposed to boil? and do I lift the lid and stir now and again? The stock was boiling when I added it to the veg. help

Grunnie, turn slow cooker on to auto or low, and yes to stiring every now and again, but not to often, other wise it will take longer to cook.hth

  • Every time you open the lid on the slow cooker while it is cooking it takes 30 minutes for it to get back up to heat again, so extra time would be needed for overall cooking. Hope that helps Lyn xxx.

Thanks Lynn, knew it took longer, but did not know by how much.

  • OK I will admit I've spent money on something completely frivolous today.

The truth is I needed to treat myself. Today is my birthday. I got two cards. My little brother took me out for breakfast and my mum is cooking tonight. I know I sound ungrateful and I don't mean to but it really hurts sometimes when you put so much thought into other people's birthdays (I spend hours planning and making gifts) and I just feel a little like an afterthought today. So I bought a little thing for myself. It only cost £10.35 so it's not breaking the bank, and it has cheered me up a little.
  • Happy birthday Ems. Good for you for treating yourself xx
