Off topic if you go to Franky and Bennys anytime, try the Amalfi sunrise drink. Had it with breakfast (don't worry its non-alcoholic!) OJ, passionfruit juice, lemon and pomegranate syrup. Lovely!

Happy birthday Ems, I hope you had a lovely day xx

Another busy day but getting there, wardrobes arrived today 5 hours later 1 is up minus the doors being hung not bad for someone who hasn't made flat pack, friend coming to help tomorrow, LL plumber came to sort upstairs shower and tap, and fitted us a tap for dishwasher use, we paid for this as it was our choice to continue using a dishwasher, we only had 1 cold tap under sink for washing machine, a few quotes came back crazy and ended up getting it done there and then for £25. Sick bugs are ruling this house 1 child after the other baby first then the older 1s one by one typically one uses the carpet! Thank goodness for a carpet washer and 10 mins of my times.

We have a huge tin of 'savings' over the last 13 months for once neither hubby or myself want to cut the tin open :) it's full but we have nothing to buy, we need nothing, want loads but for once we have stepped back, still have various vouchers from christmas if we feel the need to go splurging

well I'm going to list what I was thinking of buying but havent bought and am not going to buy. my weakness is books. I'm not buying anymore books even from charity shops until i've read all the ones i already have.

Books used to be my weakness, too, until I rediscovered the local library. Although I just remembered I bought three books from the charity shop the week before last, so I'm not completely cured!

    Happy birthday, Ems

Emms - feel a bit sorry for those who didn't make much of an effort for your Birthday - they are missing out on the fun of using your brain and skills to get/make someone something special!! As for spoiling yourself - remember you ARE worth it!! Also maybe they see you as content - needing nothing - so give you nice foodie experiences instead! Hope you had a great day anyhow! Happy (if belated ) Birthday!

vulpix: I had an MIL like that - she didnt change till the day she died. Shame there was a lot in her that was good - she worshipped the kids but I was always doing something wrong with them; neighbours were always doing something wrong etc etc. I ended up feeling very sorry for such an unhappy woman - who became more isolated the older she got and couldnt understand why. Its hard while they are around but breathe deep - count your blessings and choose happyness!

Sorry both - possibly unwanted advice but I ve been around this planet a while and in both situations and its how I coped - turning the thinking around! I m no saint - it didnt always work LOL

NBI front today - nearly went out and had lunch out (had to visit pubs delivering magasines) but I resisted delicious smells because I knew that I had my own v fast noodle dish ready to go at home!! An NSD day for me! Yea!
Aim for Sept 17: 20/30 days to be NSDs  NSDs July 23/31 (aim 22) :j

    been MIA for a while.

And have taken a rather radical step. I have given my credit and debit card to someone to look after for me.

Which means I can only buy from places that accept paypal and already have my credit card details on-line.

I did spend £10 on ebay yesterday. But that will be it for the month.

Need to get my cards back tomorrow to get some cash out as meeting a friend for lunch tomorrow and to login and pay a few bills as well.

I am hoping it will save me both money and my waist line as I spend so much money on junk food. I have loads of food in the house!!!!!

    Yours

Hi everyone, still loving reading this thread every day and seeing everyone's progress and ideas!

Just had a few thoughts, Slowdown, you might already know, but some opticians will buy back your contact lenses/solutions if they are unopened - might neutralise some of the glasses cost if you are giving them up.Vulpix

Great idea thanks. I will check it out.

Well it's been a while. I've been stranded on a desert island trying to sort out a variety of issues that have cropped up, spent too much money though none of it on stuff thankfully.

I have not added a single item to my house but we have coughed up considerable amounts on house and children. DH and I discussed a belt tightening strategy at the weekend so when the good ship NoBuy sailed close to the island I hopped back on again.

The problem is lots have things have come at once. The decorating, pond mending and holiday were all planned spends this year but....the pond person moved his date to the same time as the decorator is papering the stairs (too dangerous for us to do) and the holiday flights and deposit had to be paid. Now don't get me wrong, all planned for - just not all in he same month.

We are in fact holiday novices in a way. We usually go camping on e continent. We jump in the car with all the tents etc and go across the channel. We are not used to booking with companies and flying places and didn't realise we needed to pay the price of the flights at the same time as the deposit. We did go to Florida a couple of years ago but only paid a deposit on booking. I asked a friend who travels a lot and she said some companies do ask for flight payment.

On top of that DS2 is going to South Africa to work for an AIDS charity in the summer. Some fund raising to ease the cost is going on but we still hve to pay some this month too:eek:

So I am now Captain Skint and looking towards my shipmates once again to keep me sailing this ship straight and true.

Well done to all those keeping on the straight and narrow. I love reading your posts so please keep it up.

    Kind regards
    Slowdown:)

Thank you Lynne. It is very sad,she is lonely but is nasty and critical to all and sundry. The man from social services phoned me ,very concerned about her isolation. It is self imposed because every ones an idiot to her.He was quite upset because she had been so nasty to him.She may be ill but if so she has been the same all her life.

Anyhow, dwelling on it will make no difference.

House viewing today,so will crack on when youngest has gone to get the school bus at 8am.

Mr V and I have had a good chat about what we want to do when this house sells. We are lucky enough to own 2 other houses. There is nothing on the market at the moment which we can afford so we will move to the larger of the other houses.I will probably buy a cottage to do up and rent out and possibly have an extension on the house we live in.It has such a lovely garden and a good view which is what I want.I have also seen the cottage, just need this one to sell.

The other properties have been my job, raising the money and doing as much to renovate them as I can, getting people in for things that I can't do.The plan is to have enough houses for the kids to either live in or sell in the future.I am excited at the prospect of doing up another house, bring it on!
