  • Lots of people round these parts drink buckfast tonic wine, by the bucketful. Urgh.

My not spending is going well. Went into tescos last week, had coupons to use, got 3 bags of ys shopping for a fiver, got lucky with a 3 for a tenner multibuy, was a quid an item then another discount came off at the checkout so got 12 quids worth for a quid.

Rarely in tesco these days, got so much stuff for the fiver my mums fridge is full as well.

Life is still pretty stressful and Ive been unwell with it all, but still managing to work, declutter, just putting one foot in front of the other and keeping going just now.
  • debtmess and thriftish sorry to hear of your losses x

I've done a little spending lately. I bought a box from a charity shop for 90p (using for a present) then food for work and for a mealfor £14.72. Then yesterday I posted a parcel £3.20 , did some photocopies (£5.30) and bought a few things from Poundland £3
  • Morning all, :hello:

Gentle hugs to those that are dealing with stress & upset. Be kind to yourselves and when things get too much, remember that old saying 'This too shall pass', take time for yourself and breathe. Lord only knows I've had enough of that myself over the past year.

In the spirit of NBI, and my new mission to clear the dreaded mortgage, I checked online banking this morning and saw a client had paid me early :) so what did I do? Paid it straight off the mortgage :D:D

In my pre-NBI life I would have left it sat in the current account to eventually get spent on rubbish. But not now! That's £400 less owed to Mr Banker - only 167,000 left :rotfl:

    Have peaceful Tuesdays xx

    Thanks all x

Atypicalblonde ~ that's fantastic, well done! Such a great plan, I hope it goes well for you!
We had hoped this year to use any overtime dh got to pay down the mtg but can only do a set amount by direct debit. That's not really feasible right now.

Lyn ~ Having the fund there was partly thanks to MSE, I lurked rather than posted but it was huge help to me when we were clearing our debts. I don't know why I didn't just dive in and post!

My not buying this week is an invite out for dinner & drinks this weekend. We want to focus on rebuilding our emergency fund but it can be hard to say no sometimes.

Hope you all have a lovely day :)
  • Thanks thriftish :)

I hope you are being kind to yourself after what you have been through.

Well I have washing blowing on the line, the shopping has been put away and I'm going to have a cuppa and a biccie before DD and I set off to pick up DS from my mums. What's not to like xx

    Hi folks
Sorry I haven't posted for a while, RL got in the way of posting but I've been doing really well with NBI, partly because I'm de-cluttering madly (see the Kon Marie thread) and it seems daft to bring stuff into the house when I'm chucking other stuff out! So one considered purchase has been a new softshell jacket for my walks, expensive but less than half price, and funded by selling some gold chains etc. I've had in a drawer forever since Mum gave it to me when she stopped making and selling jewellery. I was never going to use it, and I will use my jacket to keep me toasty and dry on long tramps :j
Also since joining the thread I've been making a vat of soup and one of pasta bake every weekend, so DD and I always have a hot lunch at work and I'm less tempted to spend. That's working really well :T I could do with a few more ideas for soup though, for a slow cooker if possible - my repertoire at the moment is chicken & veg, and leek & potato - I need to branch out :rotfl:
    Cheers all

Good for you - but do build in 'It gets replaced when it gets broken'! that means no 'upgrades' but you can buy a replacement without feeling you have broken your rules! (especially if you can get it cheaper than the original).
and do not forget you MUST have little 'treats' for everyone so nobody feels totally deprived! just give a maximum amount - like £1!

    this sounds good

One of my favourites is spiced parsnip, lentil & apple soup.

Chop onions, garlic, parsnips and put in SC; add curry powder to taste and cook on high for 3 hours or on low for 7 hours. Add chopped apple or two and cook for another hour.

I usually wizz in a blender but you could use a stick blender if you prefer your soups a bit chunkier. Taste and adjust seasoning.

You can freeze in portions or just take portions out as required. Will keep in the fridge for several days.

It's probably worth googling "soups" - there are loads of recipes on the net.
