have managed to add to the savings pot this month. have found the best way is to put something in immediately the salary is paid into the bank then review it on a weekly basis and add more even if its only £1.
I like that idea may I steal it?

Thanks Edwink. Im pretty good with the old finances but do slip a bit at times. My DD is at an age were she is influenced by others. She has a friend who is spoilt so I have to try and show her that paying £80 for a pair of trainers isnt always the best way (not that I would ever spend that on trainers for a growing kid).

Our summer hol is booked and paid for. Really shopped around and have settled for a 3 star hotel which is in an area we know with a nice beach etc. A colleague said she couldnt possibly stay in anything less than 5 star and is paying almost double than us for less time away and putting it on a credit card! I dont even need any holiday clothes so apart from a bit of spends that will be it. I have a holiday saving account and a car one as cars love to suddenly break and cost lots!

Im sharing the Aldi shop with a friend as wont spend £40 there (only me and DD to feed and OH who visits at weekends) so busy sorting out a list.

    Hi again starandmoon

Looks as if you are really thinking about your purchases. Unlike your colleague who is spending so much more than you on their holiday. I would stay 3* no problem. I bet your holiday will turn out better than theirs, you just wait and see.

We are using the Ald* voucher today as well. We need to get compost which will cost £20 for the amount we need. So we are going to buy 2 papers to get 2 vouchers and spend £20 on the compost and £60 on the food shopping. With the 2 vouchers get £10 off, then our food shopping in theory will be £50 which is what we budget for every week!! Obviously we can't use both vouchers together so will split the shopping in to 2 lots and go through the checkout twice to use both vouchers.
Not looking forward to going out in the rain though as I am slow and I have a Facet Lock in my back at the moment and it is so painful. Going to go with a hot water bottle strapped around my waist. Have done that before and it really helps!!

Just a thought for your daughters clothes could you not purchase some from e*ay. I have purchased some of mine from there, new ones too. If the item is marked BNWT it is brand new with tags. I have saved a lot of money buying from e*ay. I do not go in to the high street for any of our clothes. The either come from e*ay of carboot sales. The only thing I buy in shops is underwear.
If you have the time you could sell some of your daughters clothes on e*bay when she has grown out of them. Then you would have some spare money for clothes when she need some new ones. You could do this for your clothes too!! I can help you if you get stuck with the selling side of it and I am sure others on here would too. There are several of us on here that sell our unwanted clothes on e*ay. Maybe give it some thought. Or maybe you already do sell them!!

    Keep up the good work.

  • Hi all,

I have been keeping my spends in check and have been purchasing only the essentials! next month I have Mum and Dad's birthdays though so will have to allocate some cash for that.

I had a feeling that having cow's milk on my cereal wasn't agreeing with me so I have switched to UHT unsweetened soya milk to see if that improves my situation. It's also incredibly cheaper as well so good for the purse!

I managed to ebay some of DHs PS4 games and a book of mine which will cover our petrol money for this month but Sainsbury's have a deal on where if you spend £30, you get a voucher for 10p off each litre of fuel which will help us out as we need to do a big shop anyway!

I hope you are all having a good week! Back to work for me at Job #2 tomorrow and Job #1 at the weekend!

Well, pulled the plug in the lifeboat today. Bought some "marmalade scissors" in John Lewis today. Had never heard of them but apparently they have three blades instead of two, and a demonstrator working in the store told us they made light work of chopping up orange or lemon peel for marmalade. As we make rather a lot of it, I'm hoping they will prove their worth rsther than it being a case of "A fool and his money are soon parted!" :rotfl:

If you don't get on with it - and it is an aquired taste - try almond milk. Alpro do one, or you can make it very easily if you have a food processor.
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • I took £5.90 out of my money jar today to get a portion of fish and chips.

Also got a belated bday pressie today - a Sherlock charm bracelet :)

Today is the day before payday too, and so I've transferred my remaining balance to my ISA. Drumroll please....

.....£525.32!!! Another good month, and after two months I've already hit 25% of my target!
