  • Im going to sell more on gumtree, fed up with fees and paypal fees. Havent counted up food spends yet but estimate around 50 quid this month for me, the animals and some of my mums animals as well.

I was an almost daily supermarket shopper, am down to once a week, twice tops and its mostly YS shopping I do.

Got all my zumba clothes washed up ready to sell and some dresses that no longer fit, the rest is going to charity.

Bought the marie kondo book for my mum, am decluttering a lot. I definitely wont need to buy any clothes for a long time.

Have sold around 130 quids worth of stuff on ebay/gumtree since the beginning of the year.

I dont really need to treat myself, was buying too much of the same stuff that ended up with me having too much in the first place.

The occasional cheap meal out and thats it. I bought a pair of hairdressing scissors on ebay for 2 quid as my fringe needs done. I absolutely dont feel guilty if I spend money, its too easy to kick ourselves up and down, compared to what I have spent in the past my outgoings are tiny, only my mobile contract to change and Ive made all the savings I need to.
  • Morning all, well isn't it grand at how well the NBI ship has been sailing since the New Year.We have all buckled down and pulled in our belts and now some can see the results of the hard work.

I am happy with my results as I haven't over spent ,in fact in February I am very pleased at how much I have left in my food purse. My neighbour popped the Adleee vouchers through the letterbox for me yesterday, but I am not going to use them until next Thursday.I have enough in store at the moment that I have no need to go shopping at all until then.

In February I have got by with only shopping on five different days so far out of 27.Then only when driven by needs. So with a big chunk of cash left in my food purse I am going to put £20.00 of it towards next Thursdays aldee shop and this Sunday when I draw my March food budget from the ATM I will put £15.00 with the £20 and have enough with the £5.00 off aldee voucher for one bigish shop.I will go through my cupboards before then and stock up on basic stuff and hopefully will only need the odd bit of fruit or veg during March

The remainer of my February food purse cash will go into my holiday pot that I keep for treats on holiday
I can honestly say I have not missed shopping at all,I have had more time to do things indoors and with the warmer weather hopefully on the horizon I will be able to get back to my 'junk renovateing' I have several projects in the conservatory which need doing One is an old bathroom box with a lift up seat I will rub it down and several undercoats plus a top coat or two, and a new cork matting seat it will look really nice in my DDs upstairs bathroom.Under the lift up seat is a space for storing cleaning bits bleach toilet cleaner etc and I know she is looking for one.I also have some shelves that need finishing off and a coat rack needs rubbing down.I enjoy doing it but do need the warmer weather for the paints to dry off.
There are lots of things I have caught up on at home as I haven't had to trawl around the shops and I am pleased that my to-do list is going down a bit.Win-win really
    Cheers shipmates JackieO xxx

Well, pulled the plug in the lifeboat today. Bought some "marmalade scissors" in John Lewis today. Had never heard of them but apparently they have three blades instead of two, and a demonstrator working in the store told us they made light work of chopping up orange or lemon peel for marmalade. As we make rather a lot of it, I'm hoping they will prove their worth rsther than it being a case of "A fool and his money are soon parted!" :rotfl:
I love the sound of those :j I did an image search too. They could halve the work, since they've got twice the blades :)

Absolutely! Love this post - Not Buying "It" doesn't mean Don't Buy Anything - no useless treats, and instead buying a decluttering book you get on with as a gift, and hairdressing scissors that will save you money. That liberates a lot of cash!

I'm finishing up tidying and rearranging (it all needs a good clean, but I'll do that gradually) so from next week, I'm focussing on starting up other income streams, now I've got the space to do it. And maybe by this time next week, I'll start ebay/gumtree selling again.

When I started this thread I never dreamed anyone would join in. I sort of saw it as a place for me to let off steam about selfish corporations and deceitful practice of those trying to grasp my money. I saw it as a place I would go to in order to remind myself not to buy unnecessary clutter and to make me think before I buy.

So imagine my delight when I hear my shipmates saying they have paid off 25% of their credit card because of not buying it. Or they have saved towards their holiday, or this thread has really made them think, or they have decluttered and not bought more. Or even that they just enjoy reading about everyone else's lives and like the friendly feeling of this ship.

Yep, I might not stay on the straight and narrow all the time but I truly delight in the fact that so many of you like bobbing along on this magnificent ship.

It was a lovely idea of yours and it's heartening to know so many people on here are on the same page.:)

I have to agree, I like this thread because people are positive and kind to each other :)
I haven't stopped buying, but I am thinking waaay more about what I buy, and trying to offset some spends with sales.

By the way, the carrot & parsnip soup is lovely with a dollop of sour cream, nom nom! Thanks for the soup ideas chums :D

Love the recipes on here and getting to be an expert with my slowcooker. A NSD yesterday even though I went to a craft display and demo with my friends last night. Lots were buying and I was thinking I could make that and make it even nicer;)

Thank you Slowdown this is a brilliant thread. I think it is still the busiest.

I hope this is NBI. When we moved into this house last year the toilet was dripping and the mixer tap in the kitchen. We rent our house so I kept getting on to the agents about getting them fixed. They kept saying someone was coming but they did not.

Finally in December just after this thread started they fixed everything, we had quite a few outstanding repairs.. My water company has now lowered my payments by £12 a month. So think on how much a couple of dripping taps are using.

I was buying £12 worth of water I could not use.

Well. I have a big smile on my face:)

And it's not there because of anything I have done but because of everything my shipmates have done.

Keep it up shipmates. Because if nothing else, you truly make my day. Thank you.

    Kindest regards

Big thank you captain slowdown :)

I saw your first post when I was at a really low ebb about my work/mad lifestyle. Couldn't believe how many lovely likeminded people responded. Cant begin to tell you what a difference you and all the crew have made to the mind-set in the pickly household.
Today I have had the biggest underspend of wages yet and DH and I are loving it! We have simplified life and he is on board (excuse pun!) for the first time ever. For us we now see there might be another way, I might not have to stay in my hamster wheel job long term, he may be able to retire earlier, we may get the mortgage paid off more quickly than we ever thought. I have developed an aversion to shops apart from ald** we no longer have to buy 'stuff' as a reward to ourselves for working so hard. When we do go out we do so because we want to, its planned and not because we cant be bothered to cook.
I lurk most of the time but read posts every day.
