  • Hello friends!

Slowdown, thank you for the thread. I'm another who got paid today and had money left over! £130 straight into savings. My bank account pays more interest if I increase my balance by £500 a month. I didn't think I'd manage it January and February because I'd bought a new car in January (my mum's old one), so took a chunk of my savings..but I have still been able to increase the balance by £500 both months, and I have enough to put £500 in on 1st March, so that's my interest for the next month sorted.:j

Thanks for the soup recipe Edwink, any good tomato soup recipes anyone?

I spent £4.40 today, bought cakes for the team at work at lunch time :o

Have a great weekend everyone xx

Everybody is doing very well :T

I had a £50 odd pound dentist bill this week, with sadly the same again to come in 3 weeks as I have to have a wisdom tooth out :(.

Yesterday I went shopping for the first time in a few weeks. Managed to get all the birthday etc cards needed for the next 2 months along with toiletries (all needed). I also needed a couple of clothing items that I managed to get without spending a fortune, so it's all going well.

Happy weekend to you all :)

    Avast me hearties.

    What a lovely day it's been.Spent 4 hours in the garden,planted stuff,dug stuff,cut grass,swept up.Also had 3 loads of washing out.washed everyones dressing gowns today.

Managed to do a bit of the wardrobe,it's lay on the kitchen floor glue drying, covered in tins of tomatoes and beans to keep the pieces in place. Also managed to fix a drawer who had a broken bottom!

Got 2 viewings tomorrow.Going for a curry with friends tomorrow evening.

Grr child has just announced she has cookery on Monday and needs lamb.It makes my blood boil.It costs a fortune.Last year she made fruit salad and it cost £7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Last week it was maccaroni cheese. She took the weight of pasta required, cooked it and weighed it again so wasn't allowed to use it all!And don't get me started on the apple pie,oh I just need a tin of pie filling and frozen pastry.

    I need a lie down.

  • Evening everyone

I guess this tread makes quite a difference for quite some of us!
It really helps with staying focused and question spendings.

I ordered two pairs of shoes because I need decent shoes for work. All my comfortable shoes that match most of my clothes seem to fall apart (I do wear most shoes till they crumble under my feet)
So ordered a black and a tan pair of lace ups. The black one is very comfy and will stay. They're quite expensive but I can already tell now that they will be THE shoes for spring and fall and I will happily wear them as long as possible. The others are going back as I don't like the colour 100%

I'm quite happy with February, food spends were around 15% under budget and I made another big payment towards a big bill, just as I did in January as well.
Did had a frivolous spending today though, a candle. I do have enough scented candles but I wanted to buy one as a present for someone and ended up buying one for me as well. Who can resist a candle called "Rhubarb and Custard"? And that is just the way it smells. I know that brand, they burn for ages, so broken down on the hours I will enjoy it it isn't too bad.

Starsandmoon, some people just make me wonder... But the worst is that they don't seem to get into trouble somehow... I have a lot friends who have zero savings, although getting paid very well. But strangely it seems to work out...

I'm already tired again, but now wonder, up since 5 and worked from 6.30 till 2.30 and then a quick tour into town and then groceries round, cleaning and laundry. Am just waiting for the dryer load to finish and then it is off to bed. Have a busy Saturday ahead with taking photos at a local event and going out with friends in the evening.

    have a nice evening shipmates!

Another thank you to Slowdown for this thread - I have mostly lurked on these forums for a couple of years, and this is the first thread I've really felt comfortable posting in. Everyone is so friendly and supportive.

Spent just over £16 on my weekly shop today, which included pet food for the cats, seed and sultanas for the wild birds and some YS bargains for me! Used to easily spend twice that. Added £40 to my emergency cash.

A friend gave me a 20% off voucher for M&S, plus I had a £10 voucher from doing surveys, so combined the two and got a £12.50 shirt for work for nowt

  • Great news here I have just found out that I have recorded The Sewing bee after all. I was out last night - art class.

Bad news I have forgotten to pay my savings into monthly account- will
    Have to do that tomorrow.

Had hoped to get into garden tomorrow but will need to buy compost first. The stuff in the bins is going on the veg patch. Mice have got into the shed and eaten my chitting potatoes.

Another bootful of decluttering gone today but seem to have ground to a halt on that front.

    Hi eandjsmum

Not sure if you have an Ald* near you but they have Organic compost for 2.49 for 40litres and Organic seed compost for 1.49 for 20litres.

Like you the contents of my compost bins go on my veg beds so I do buy compost for the seeds and for potting plants on!! Thought the Ald* price was really good compared to other shops. Best price I have seen anyway!!!

I hope this info will be of some use to you and others on the ship!!

  • Another big thank you to captain Slowdown.

So end of the second NBI month for me. £75 Jan & £110 Feb going to overpay mortgage. Excess from not buying, grocery budget & a couple of sales on fleabay.

Did have a couple of large grocery bills today. £30 f@rmfoods (used £2.50 voucher) and £40 in a!di (used £5 voucher) But the cupboards were empty and I now have loads of meals planned for the next few weeks, with only a few fresh bits needed as I go along.

    Have a great weekend shipmates.
We WILL stick to a budget for all of 2015 without loosing momentum. :j
  • Yay last day of the month :):) and a brand new shiny month tomorrow :)
All food cupboards looking OK (even though they were raided a little bit for DGS at Uni's 'Ben Box' which we took up to Norwich for him) can't have him feeling hungry as so far away :):):)

NSD today as I shall just pootle about doing odd jobs indoors. All the ironing is done and put away(I even folded some stuff up and just put in the airing cupboard to save work :))

I think I will be baking later on this morning as I want to try some more banana cake recipes and use up the last of the banana's.
I have some pears that could be used up as well so I may do a pear crumble instead of apples to use them up.They have been supposed to be ripening off in the conservatory for the past week and still seem a bit hard although they are the squat william type pears. Can't think of what else to use them in really and I don't want to waste them They were YS at 6 for 30p but were rock hard :)
I suppose I could poach them, Any one know if pears freeze well ???

Right time for a cuppa I think Well done on everyone and their February trip It seems we are all on board with hanging on to our 'apennies:):):)

PS I will be splashing a bit of cash tomorrow on my DGS Henry as he has worked well in school, but it will come from my Happy Stash Cash'
