Spent all the money set aside for mortgage overpayment, my furry owner had to go to the vet's, turned out to be trapped feather shaft and broken tooth, was horrible to see her trying to get it out herself, then she didn't want us to touch her and went batting round the house, caught up with her and got her in the cat carry case 20 mins later, still it could have been worse, she's back home now, being very loving and 'helping' me as I'm typing.

Captain Slowdown, I'm another one who's glad you started this thread, long may she sail on if anyone is woundering why I put she for the boat it'a a sailors tradition, all boat's are female, at least that's what my dad and the rest of his navy friends use to tell me.

Grunnie, I'm just being nosey, how did your leek & potatoe soup turn out?

And a nice surprise, my table I ordered last week has just arrived, means I'm not tied to the holistic centre I work part time at, just need to let the 2 ladies know and then they can look forward to having massages again, the centre's up stairs and heart trouble has stopped them coming.

boultdj the soup was great. First night straight from the slowcooker next day I whizzed it with my handblender and the rest is in tubs in the freezer. So at the cost of 2 veggie stock cubes about 10 portions of soup. I grew the leeks potatoes and the onion.:D

Glad it turned out well, my leeks are being given to me by neighbours, the spuds I'v had to buy, but this year, now I'v got a garden, I'll be having a go at leek's, will sort out seed's tomorrow for starting stuff in the greenhouse, going to be fun having more space than just the tub's I'v used for the last 10 years, still it's surprising what you can grow in tub's.

:) I've been out gardening for a few hours and bought some special offer roasting beef from Lidlly. I plan to cook that tomorrow and have it hot, two days as cold cuts and the rest frozen sliced up ready for later meals. It was £10.59 and I intend to get a lot of eats for that money.

Other than a couple of other grocery items, and a 50p book, I have bought nothing today and haven't missed shopping a bit. Going to batch cook fishcakes tonight, with tinned salmon, and freeze most of them, too. I like to get the best possible use out of the oven, and to have some days where I can eat really quickly from home made 'ready meals' when I come in from work.

Weather tomorrow is supposed to be 'orrible as opposed to sunny and dry as it was today, so I shall probably be doing more stuff around the homestead. Lots of projects on the go, books to read, interwebs to play with, it's all good.

So another big thanks from me Captain Slowdown!

Another thanks from me too although I have just been lurking for the last couple of weeks as RL taken over and I haven't really felt with it either.

I agree with other comments that everyone seems so positive about each other and I love reading the thread as it never seems cliquey at all which puts me off some parts of the forum.

    Have a lovely weekend shipmates

Thought some of you would like to try this soup recipe!!! An unusual but stimulating combination of flavours, this warming soup is an excellent way to transform celery!!

Best of all is Ald* have celery as one of the Super Six @ 39p for a couple of weeks at the moment!!

    SERVES 4 - 6

    10ML/2 TSP OLIVE OIL
    1 ONION CHOPPED
    1 LEEK SLICED
    675G/1 1/2LB CELERY CHOPPED
15ML/1 TBSP MEDIUM OR HOT CURRY POWDER
    225G/8OZ PEELED POTATOES DICED
    900ML/1 1/2 PINTS VEG STOCK
    1 BOUQUET GARNI
    30ML/2 TBSP MIXED HERBS
    PINCH OF SALT

    1. Heat the oil in a large saucepan. Add the onions, leeks and celery. Cover and cook gently for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

    2. Add the curry powder and salt and cook for 2 minutes stirring from time to time.

    3. Add the potatoes, stock and bouquet garni and bring to the boil. Simmer for about 20 minutes, until the vegetables are tender, but not too soft.

    4. Remove the bouquet garni set the soup aside to cool slightly before it is processed.

This soup freezes well so can be made in a bigger batch if you prefer to make soup that way. You can always double the ingredients and make more.

When I first made this soup I was unsure if I would like it but I have to say this is my absolute favourite of all the soups we make!!

    Enjoy!!!

A Big thank you from me too Captain Slowdown x

  • Another big thank you to Cap'n Slowdown from me. I love this thread. I have been paid yesterday, and still have £200 cash from my envelopes which I hope will mean I don't touch the bank account for another month.

Today I couldn't find my fleecy gloves, and fretted all day that I might have lost them - had 'em for years and they're very jolly, multicoloured and remind me of the person who passed them on to me.

I found them tonight (yay!) when I got in from work, at the bottom of the shopping bag in which I had carried home my spoils from Morrisons last night - 2 packs of oxtail joints for 35p each, and a bag of salad for 15p. :T

My relief was firstly that I still had my gloves, and secondly that I would not be buying replacements! The gloves got a kiss, Kondo style!:o (They do bring me joy) And the bag is now rolled up and stashed at the back door, ready to go back out to the car.
