Declaring £1917.15 this month. May sound bad but it wasn't really that bad considering i lost and gained a job, travelled to and from london afew times... + the big wammy of expenses the interest component of a 15k loan which was 1460 quid... (5 year loan at 3.7%).

So if i pay it early i will recoup that money back... that will add to the savings...

My second flat is completing on April 6th... so super excited about that... so onwards and upwards...

You have a property chain lalman?

I see what you guys mean with the renting scenario, however I already have a fairly decent job (finish my plumbing apprenticeship in June), already been told I am getting kept on when it finishes as I done well winning awards at college and my company are very busy atm. So there is no need to chase work however that could change in the future (God forbid). I stay with my parents still and they said they would rather I stayed longer and save up a deposit for a house rather than leave and rent. So I am going to use this time with less outgoings to try get some decent money saved up so I can not just buy a house, but afford a fairly reasonable one and get on the property ladder. I am looking forward to it, thanks for the support guys I hope you all achieve your goals too!:j

Each to their own. Personally, I value my independence and am glad that I moved out of my parents' home when I went to university. You can't buy life experience :)

Good luck with your savings goals.

Wow, did I have some complicated financials to work out!

I have been "borrowing" from my freelance income account for a few months to not get into too much trouble on my main account, then paying it back once the day job salary came in. This effectively meant that I hit -£693 in December, borrowed, paid back, then hit £-357 in January, borrowed, paid back, but borrowed from the bank effectively this time as I have had to buy my friend out of our house. So, I have had to work out what my OD situation would have been had that money not come in and work out the difference. (and I am aware that better, more timely management would have meant no OD and fewer charges - I am a fool!), and that total is £-214.79, so I have reduced the theoretical OD by a further £142.00. This includes a couple of cash back payments that I would have transferred to another account for easier monitoring and holiday saving, but why bother... I get better interest in this account now!

Add to this the previous save transfer of £259, and I can safely declare £401 this month. :T I shall update the spreadsheet shortly.

Belts tightened next month, but will be working within more sensible figures, and reverting to my spending diary rather than just my grocery spend, so should be easier to mark progress.
    Keep reading books!
August grocery challenge Budget £150. Spent so far: £109.32. Remaining: £40.68

I am afew years on from you thebunting, I used to rent inLondon to further my career but instead of buying down there I bought a flatthat was rented out up north (where my friends and family are). I lost my jobin London so saw it as an opportunity to move back north… and in the process ofbuying my second flat… (pre-let till September 2016) and hopefully third this year!

This might sound odd but I live with my folks, as like you… Idon’t mind living with my folks to reduce my cost base and instead I aminvesting that money in property/ stocks/ savings… to hopefully provide me witha greater financial security for my future.

If I were younger like you and you really wanted to haveyour own place, I would buy a 2/3 bed place and rent out the other rooms tomates or people similar age… that way they are basically paying you to live inyour house and you can still have your freedom…

My Goal: From 1st of Jan 2015 to 31st of December 2015 is to save 30000.

    48.78% towards 2015 target.

    105.3% towards 2014 target. :j

Thanks for the advice, you seem to be doing well. What age are you if you don't mind me asking?

It's funny you say that as there is a 3 bed semi across the road from my mum and dads house for sale and my dad said the exact same as you. He says I should try and buy it and then rent out a room to a friend or a female of the same age (because they are stereotypically tidier than males :o). The third room is a tad small so could be used as a home gym or something. I warmed to the idea but a deposit would be the problem. They offered to lend me money but I hate the idea of owning my parents a vast some of money.

Goodness, some great amounts saved here this month. Payday for me £500 will be going into my regular monthly saver, plus I also have £100 left from last month which I have moved to a savings account. Bringing my total now to £5600.
