Its great seeing people on this thread, what they've been through. Some were in thousands of debt, managing to clear that, then tackle their mortgage and now onto putting away some substantial savings.
I'm 22 and still have a house to buy etc, still have all these obstacles to tacke. So hopefully coming here and starting my savings and changing my attitude towards money early doors will stop me ever getting into debt and have some decent money behind me for getting a good house. I refuse to rent, it's a trap that I never want to be in. I refuse to set up an overdraft on any accounts and loans/credit cards are being avoided like the plague. However thinking about setting a CC up for fuel or something to try build up a decent credit file (will need advice on this).
Excited to see how far I can get, especially with another couple wage rises to get:beer:

:j Yay! Payday! :j
I've had a pretty frugal February, and I've also pulled together stray piles of small money, so it is No 159 delaring £1800 savings for February
This month, I have also finally got round to changing my personal account to one that will pay me interest and cashback on the bills, so it now is better for me not to pay into my ISA. I just have to be disciplined to not spend as the cash is much easier to get to.
Take care y'all

I completely agree that renting is a trap; unfortunately sometimes it is a necessary evil. I wouldn't have got my first professional job if I hadn't moved away from my parents and rented. I'm still renting currently this challenge is to help me raise money for a deposit I'm sure there are others on here doing the same thing.
For CC as it sounds like you haven't had much or any credit in the past; it might just be easiest applying to your main bank as they will more likely accept you.
Good luck with the challenge; I look forward to seeing yours and everyone else's progress throughout the year.# 047 'Save 12K in 2019' - £6,346.86 / £12,000 55.89%# 074 'Save 12K in 2015' - £4,379.25 / £4,000 109.48%0 -
I have been shifting some money around this week and looking at my financial goals.
I have withdrawn all but £10 from my Credit Union and put that money into my ISA (no dividend pay out from the CU last year and very likely this year). Decided to leave both ISAs at £11k when I top up this month and then focus on re-establishing an emergency fund. The ISAs are there as long term saving and will not be touched other than to add more savings. The only thing I will need to do with them is look to move the money to a new ISA for 2015 - 2016 with as good an interest rate as I can get. I have never done this before so will be a bit of a learning curve.
I am hoping I will have around £750 to put away into savings. OH been doing overtime at work and we have no council tax to pay this month. Pay day tomorrow so I will update then.0 -

Giving you the benefit of the masses of wisdom I've accumulated on my extra 9 years on the planet, being inflexible is rarely a benefitThere are plenty of valid reasons for renting (flexibility, costs etc.) Do what's best for your circumstances and pocket, but don't become dogmatically attached to as significant a choice as buying vs. renting. For what it's worth, I own a home, but there have been plenty of occasions over the last few years where I would quite happily have had someone else taking care of all the faff

I see what you guys mean with the renting scenario, however I already have a fairly decent job (finish my plumbing apprenticeship in June), already been told I am getting kept on when it finishes as I done well winning awards at college and my company are very busy atm. So there is no need to chase work however that could change in the future (God forbid). I stay with my parents still and they said they would rather I stayed longer and save up a deposit for a house rather than leave and rent. So I am going to use this time with less outgoings to try get some decent money saved up so I can not just buy a house, but afford a fairly reasonable one and get on the property ladder. I am looking forward to it, thanks for the support guys I hope you all achieve your goals too!:jGoal is to Retire before I'm 40 (currently 30yo)0

Declaring £1917.15 this month. May sound bad but it wasn't really that bad considering i lost and gained a job, travelled to and from london afew times... + the big wammy of expenses the interest component of a 15k loan which was 1460 quid... (5 year loan at 3.7%).
So if i pay it early i will recoup that money back... that will add to the savings...
My second flat is completing on April 6th... so super excited about that... so onwards and upwards...My Goal: From 1st of Jan 2015 to 31st of December 2015 is to save 30000.
48.78% towards 2015 target.
105.3% towards 2014 target. :j0
