  • The amount you guys are saving, do you plan to keep it in savings at the end of the year or is it 'for something'?

Mine is toward buying my first property so a couple of years of hard saving required!

I hope I don't bore anyone with my post here - but I am just reflecting on the posts and questions being asked.

    How can I save?

I have always been a saver, my first few jobs were 17-20k and I managed to put away money each month by living with folks, and living a life style more accustomed to a student than a young adult.

My salary has significantly gone up since then and I have maintained that life style, so the proportion of my salary I put into savings (although I don't live with my folks anymore) has gone up... I agree with earlier posters, unless your earning a very very low wage, there is always opportunities to save money.

    Why am I saving?

I think everyone has there own goals right? It seems to me a lot of people saving for a home, nest egg, retirement... I am saving for financial independence. I want to be in a position to pick and choose when I work. For me that would be ace. I am doing this by buying rental properties and attempting to eventually live on there cashflow but I am still a long way off... but its all about 1 step at a time :-)
My Goal: From 1st of Jan 2015 to 31st of December 2015 is to save 30000.

    48.78% towards 2015 target.

    105.3% towards 2014 target. :j

First week update and I'm around the £310 mark saved. Just waiting for Tesco interest to be added and that should be me for this month. I did have another £250 earmarked, but just opened an M&S regular saver and saving that £250 for next month's deposit ;)
