Completely forgot about the sheer amount of significant people in my life who have birthdays in January- 9, 9!!! One is my DS and I dont know what to do for it, he'll be 11 so at that age. I was just about to transfer money to my savings but then remembered :D

Looks like my only savings will be earned from extras, eg; ebay.

  • Think this is an excellent idea. And defiantly something I will consider doing.
But can I ask. How do you manage to save so much?
    I do a £1 a day
    Any eBay/gumtree sales
    And cash back already
What extra ways to save so much is there?
  • Some of us have regular savings, depending on how much you earn.

I am freelance, so my income fluctuates, but I have a DD for £100 a month to my savings and I make sure I save it. Anything over that is a bonus - I count things for example like if I save money on something with vouchers or codes, ebay sales, cash back, interest. And then if I have a really good month work wise I can put some more into my pot.

I am part of the Payment a Day thread too, which keeps me motivated to put a little in the pot every day.

You dont have to go the full £12000 if you feel this is beyond you. Lots of us are doing less than that.

I save some as soon as I get paid and as soon as OH gets paid. Then I round up/down the balances on my savings and current accounts throughout the month. That's what I love about on-line banking - you can do small amounts as and when. OH saves small coins in a tin and I save £2 coins. We usually count them up and bank them at the end of the year, but I want to do it more frequently this year.

You have to find a way that works for you. The more you manage to save, the more you want to save, the better you get at it. Don't be put off by some people's large amounts. We all have different incomes and expenditure.

  • It's a signature Ceewash.

Go to the top of the forum and click on "Quick Links" (in the first green bar at the top of the page) and then "Edit Signature" will be in the dropdown menu that comes up, from there you can type it what you want, then click "save signature", and then every time you post it will come up at the bottom of your posts :)
