A NYE's party would have cost us a tenner for the tickets alone, let alone buying all the booze, so we had saved that by not going out and just taking some of the wine we had left from Christmas over to my brother's.
This saving was eaten into when OH and I accompanied a friend to a gig she was performing at this weekend, as she really wanted some company. Same price ticket entry, but I stayed alcohol free and of course, it wasn't NYE.
We can't do that again, so we are planning to ask our friends round for a board games night or something, so no one has to spend money on rounds down the pub.
Time for the annual grundies purchase, but judicious use made of the sales buy going online first and click and collect stopped me buying any extras. (any online cashback is going to my holiday fund rather than the main savings goal)

I'm going to count dividends from investments, since they pay out the same as cash and I can use them either for bills or back into savings/investments (I won't count fluctuations in value, either direction though). It's not a large amount for Jan-Mar, but £29.21 for no work at all is incredibly satisfying! The grocery challenge is really helping me keep on track to save most of this month's wages to re-establish the emergency fund, so I'll update again at the end of the month when all the numbers are in.0

The amount you guys are saving, do you plan to keep it in savings at the end of the year or is it 'for something'?
I only ask because the targeted savings I have on this thread are for a specific thing (moving house) so they'll be gone by the end of the year - does this still count?
I also put aside a bit each month for car bills, tax etc which I'm not counting in this total.2016 diet challenge 16lbs/42lbs lost

Mine are for a deposit for our first property. We really need around £30k to afford what we want here (two bed flats going for £240k and more) but if a new help to buy build was to come up we may be able to buy earlier. So, who knows, I may use th savings this year, though unlikely - there was a lovely place where we'd pay less than we currently pay in rent but too far from the station for me :-(
I guess I'd still count the savings up to that date and then start fresh after having used them.0 -

Mine is nicknamed my 'Northumberland Fund' - am hoping to buy a property there at some point, maybe as a holiday let at first and then relocate there.£2 savers club #33
