Miss Thrifty, regarding car insurance, if you are a civil servant or retired from same, I strongly recommend Liverpool Victoria (L=V). They are not on comparison sites. My Sept 2002 4WD costs about £160 a year comprehensive with reserved NCB. The little 16 year old Merc SLK only costs £140 for same cover. (I like well made cars and don't care about their age.)

Thanks for the advice. You certainly know how to find a good deal ! Unfortunately I am not a civil servant or retired from same. I worked in education and am now retired. I will check out LV and other insurance companies not on the comparison sites.

Today.. another Monday so £125 into savings account so savings are growing steadily. Need to be extra frugal this month to keep up the saving momentum ... I have no intention of giving up saving now I am on a roll :D

    Hi all,

I have been missing in action for a while- no savings for March, which was expected due to various expenses.

We managed to save £1,589.13 in April- £5 of which was interest. Earning money for having money feels good! I have just sent in the update form for April- sorry it is late...

Unfortunately I found out I am being made redundant last week, so may not have much to add to our savings for a while. I am optimistic that I will find something, but it may not leave us much to add to our saving account.

  • #65 reporting £904.91 for May.

£800 normal savings, £100 from Co-op account switching and £4.91 interest.

Financially a very eventful month! I got promoted to a new position with a company car and a higher salary. This means I can sell both my and my partner's car and upgrade hers to a nicer one for her new job starting in the autumn :D

We have a lot of house repairs to do in preparation of selling it so I'm not sure if I'll be able to save as much this month, or if our current savings will take a bit of a battering but proud of how well I've done so far this year (I'm trying to save £6k before our house move in Sept, hence the compressed savings timescale).

#041 reporting for May - not great as booked holiday for the summer, but at least most of it is already paid for.

£135.94 added, bringing my total to £966.32 for the year, or 16.1%.

There are no more big spends coming up for the rest of year (not ones I know about anyway!) so June onwards should look a lot more rosy!

Not going great - like I said before this is a heavy spend month, but the wedding and anniversary are out of the way and the birthday will be all done and dusted by Friday.

I'm missing out on nights out, plays that friends are in and other people's parties for their birthdays. But a budget is a budget, and a blown budget is even budgetier!

Good news, I have had a couple of payments in from the second income, so that means I've not wasted my time on hard work, and they can go towards my big lumpy payment at year end, after Mr Taxman has taken his bit.

Crossing fingers to add a plus amount this month. Not sure I'll reach it. Stretching the grocery budget to fit.
