  • Unfortunately I'm afraid I'll have to bow out of this thread and just keep an informal check on my savings, I keep forgetting to calculate each month and I've completely missed the last two month's worth.

Thank you for the thread slowlyfading and hopefully I'll try again next year with a bit more organisation.

Today, another £125 whisked away into savings. I have now reached my original target. Will increase this and continue saving.

A big fat £0 saved in April. Primarily due to moving house which incurred additional costs and we've spent a fair bit buying new stuff for our new house & garden!

A rather frugal next four weeks required!

Have just bought lots of 2nd hand furniture for our new empty house, around £300, LAshley equivalent £7000. Why would anyone buy new?

    Have fun all.

May I ask where you buy your furniture from?

I will report next weekend. Been an expensive month but the following one will be horrific! - lets hope I can keep my pants!
My Goal: From 1st of Jan 2015 to 31st of December 2015 is to save 30000.

    48.78% towards 2015 target.

    105.3% towards 2014 target. :j

Also been an expensive month here too....

Sorting out car insurance which is due next month so whilst it will come out of next month's savings, i have to pay it this month on CC. Also, I need to get a new Power supply for my PC as the otehr day it blew the fuse in the plus and now when i turn it on it makes a funny noise at power on briefly then continues to work, however if have PC for for good few hours i got a high temp warning so i've stopped using it and hoping the power supply is the issue and the CPU high temp is just off due to PSU issues - never had high CPU temp beofre except for when really really hot of which at present it isn't anywhere near and the reading was only showing 57F, and then about 31/32C so doesn't seem right as im sure thats within normal useage. Anyway just ordered that with a couple of new case fans as my case fans are 3pin conenctors and my motherboard uses 4 pin so i'm getting the case fans so can plug directly onto the motherbaord and get rid of the additional cables. Current power supply not done too badly, survived a few upgrades over the years (I build my own PCs), it was purchased in 2006 so around 9 years old... not too bad, never had any issues with it untill now. Think its been coming on for a while now... every now and then when i turn power on at the wall it made a loulder than usual noise but everything worked so i thought it was the actual socket but it never did it all the time, sometimes was normal, other times the louder noise untill finally the weekend it blew the fuse. in the power cable.

So with that and car insurance due whcih i have to say - I sooo have my car insurance due at the wrong time... i started doing quotes begingin of may and as couln't choose exact date it was due, i just chose nearest possible - was getting quotes fairly reasonableish compared to some, now i've been able to change the date - suddenly its jumped up from 50 - 100 - just outrageous.... I was thinkign of taking insurance out this week and just have them over lap but my mate said can't have 2 insurances on same car so i'm stuck with teh higher price!

I foudn one tonight that isn't the cheapest i've seen but its by no means the higher values so i phoned my insurance company to start negotiations and I missed the closing tiem by 2 mins!!!! So gonna phone tomorrow beofre I go to work and get it sorted out. I'm expecting to have to change insurance as my renewal quote is around £75 more expensive and i've never had much luck getting them to come down and match or beat that price.

Will declare my savings end of the month as I always do it then, been tryign to save and watch what I spend this month but thats kinda gone out now with computer repairs and higher than expected car insurance...

I've added another £1,375 this month to the savings pot - am not declaring for May quite yet in case I squirrel away a little bit more - not likely to be a big amount at this point in the month however. Am now within shouting distance of my yearly target and expect to meet it next month if all goes well. :)

Ok have updated April and May totals. Bit surprised how well I'm doing considering what's going on with looking after my parents and everything. Might have to adjust Mays total if I get a large credit card bill but at the moment managing.
  • £1000 for me in May. I had a bit of overtime and expenses so I was hoping for more than this, but my money seems to have leaked away last month. I had a dental bill and have pre-paid a weekend away but there were "pots" for these that I don't count as savings, so it shouldn't have made much difference.

Maybe when I'm adding up next month I'll find some extra money that I'd forgotten about! :o

How does everyone else calculate their savings amount? I am just declaring the monthly amount I put into my stocks and shares isa and aiming for £1000 per month and so far on target.

However I have just checked my spending app tracker and subtracted monthly outgoings from income since January and so far it comes to £6697 which is £2697 more than declared and is sitting in my Santander 123 account earning 3% interest. I think that sounds better :)

indeed it does, my figures are calculated by adding up my numerous regular savers, I have one at HSBC, Lloyds, Leeds and Kent. then I add the money that is sitting in my nationwide account earning 5% interest then the money that is sitting in my TSB account earning 5%. Then I add in my HSBC isa which is a small £300.

This is what I declare, but I may end up using the bottom figure of my signature if I dont make my target, but as I am declaring them in other threads, It doesnt feel right to add again here, but have been told that I am able to add them if I wish, (£1 and £2 savings pots)

    hope this makes sense....

well done on your achievement so far
