Update for May is £500- not too shabby! About to take a hit though as had a bit of a wages blip, its been fixed now but will take a while to even out. Also my geriatric laptop is looking a bit terminal so may have to invest in a new one!
Slowlyfading I hope your feeling better now- be kind to yourself please!
Happy savings everyoneMortgage free wannabe #580 -
My update for May is £0 again, I had to "borrow" from savings in early April due to a family emergency so until I've paid that back in I won't be declaring
should be back on track very soon...
Will go and fill out update form...MFiT-T7 #17 (Jan 2025) £193k (Apr) £177k (July) £

I'm not sure how techie you are, but you may be able to save money with some quick improvements. A new battery, some extra memory and a thorough clean with compressed air etc. may work wonders.
Throw in the removal of unecessary software and a few free programmes such as CCleaner, Spybot-S&D and Malwarebytes (as well as the Windows options such as defragmenting the hard drive), and your laptop could become a bit more sprightly.
You might be past that, but £30-40 could see you soldiering on for a while yet if you'd rather not spend on a replacement.
That said, laptops do seem to get cheaper and cheaper for basic functionality :beer:0 -

Thank you for your kind words everyone; I'm trying to take it easier and focus on resting more and not trying to do everything.

Think Im going to post for May, not sure I will save any more this month, I have just paid of a few pennies to each of my CC to balance out their balances, (I like them to be round numbers)
So I will declare...... £1125, Keeping up with the last months totals...
been very frugal this month, not sure i will be able to keep this total running as I have a few birthdays to pay for next month and I have one maturing CC debt to pay off, as the 0% finished on weds, but I paid it off and then used it for petrol (as I get cashback) so need to pay this of before the next bill comes in....
I have made it halfway without adding the coin stash - lets see if I can make it to the end of the year.....I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Banking & Borrowing, and Reduce Debt & Boost Income boards. All good points, but one I'd add is a solid-state hard drive - I put one in my 2008 macbook, reinstalled OS X, and it has given it a complete new lease of life. Rather than grinding to a halt when asked to do anything, it now boots up in seconds and is perfectly good for day-to-day tasks, email, browsing the web, etc.
Cost was £40 from Amazon and replacement took about 15 minutes with instructions on ifixit.com, much better than almost a grand for a new Mac
If you're not happy taking a screwdriver to your laptop, a local computer place will do the upgrade for a fairly reasonable fee, but although i'm generally fairly hopeless at this sort of thing I found it straightforward to follow the instructions to do it myself0
