We're close enough to pay day now for me to safely submit my savings for May. I'll be declaring £433.54 (an odd amount as I wanted to round off the amount in my ISA to a neat/round 4 figure number instead of the odd pennies and pounds which were in there lol). It's a higher than usual figure for me but I know next month isn't going to be quite as good as we need to top up our maintenance kitty for the rental property, particularly in lieu of jobs we want to get done during the summer months. Unfortunately I also have to have a root canal done on Friday which isn't going to be cheap (private dentistry). It's strategically timed with pay day but I may have to dip into savings in the short term; I am however eagerly awaiting a tax rebate, so that will replenish anything I have to "borrow". A chunk of the cost is going to be covered by my 'rainy day fund' but that's pretty low at the moment following the boiler failure at the rental property earlier in the year. I'm disappointed that my rainy day fund has taken such a beating but am not too peeved given as it's served it's purpose by covering these unexpected high expenses instead of eating into the long term savings! Off to fill in the update form now! :)

I need a handle on my spending again, as I blew the celebrations budget by £142 this month (birthday, anniversary, wedding...)

This means I can declare now - a mean old £359.13 towards the debt. Must do better!

  • Quick question - I'm spending £2k of my savings in the next few days towards a new car. Should I minus this amount from my amount saved or keep it in there as I did in effect 'save it' at some point?

Well at this stage of the month I think I may as well declare at £1,375 - thought I might be able to add a little more but due to a trip it's not really been possible. Still not too bad, I'm happy with that for this month. :)

I spoke too soon, i picked up an email this morning from my partners cousin saying he'd sent me £300. This was following an insurance claim he'd made after he accidentally poured water over my laptop way back in december. Brilliant timing i must say! I'm going to put £200 into my long term savings and £100 into my rainy day fund. :D

    May update from me!

I saved an amazing £2,692 this month (although £1,200 of that was ISA interest!). Absolutely thrilled with myself, after a slow start to the year :D

Total saved in 2015 to date: £3,844. Total saved overall: £88,683.

I'm so close to £90,000 now!

Well done everyone, it's great to see how well you're doing. Big hugs and continued thanks to slowlyfading xxx
