Mind you, Mr T seem to be increasing value prices. I went for value ginger nuts the other day - used to be 25p - they were 53p a packet!!!! and the regular ones were 54p.

I wonder if they hope people will get used to buying them and then not keep checking the prices.

Same happening in my local Tesco's too. The value curry sauce (tinned) is now 10p! Its doubled. The value noodles were 8p and are now 10p. I like the Value chocolate digestives and they're still 29p. A lot of other value stuff is disappearing. The cynic in me says its supermarkets forcing you to buy the more expensive brand because they know most don't have the option of going elsewhere due to fuel costs!
CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J

The value ranges are being sneeked up in price.

So take pride in what you are doing, and if visually it "offends" you, decant & repackage, and allow yourself the odd luxuary such as toothpaste. It is all about the balance that you are happy with, and no-one else.

I so agree with Winky. Balance is important. I use some value things, others I've tried and won't use again, because we simply didn't like them.

Something else I noticed in Tesco a while back - their Extra Mature Cheddar used to be good, but we noticed that suddenly it didn't taste as strong, and went mouldy very quickly. A friend of Mr LW thinks that they've been "upgrading" some of their better selling products to their "Finest" range - so its the same product, but more expensive to buy, and putting an inferior product in the standard range.

Anyway, I don't buy supermarket cheese anymore; we go to the Farmers Market, where we get a month's supply at a time, and have never had a problem with it going mouldy. It's no dearer than Tesco, and it tastes amazing! The guy does an "Extra, Extra Mature Cheddar" which Mr LW absolutely loves.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)

I think Mr T and others are finding themselves the victims of the credit crunch - were once 9p baked beans brought customers in to spend a fortune on other stuff and they didn't mind making little or no margin on them, now more and more of us are buying the value ranges, so they have to charge more to keep their overall margins. Plus don't forget the cost of producing the goods and transportation has gone up for them too.

Just means we've got to be even more savvy.

ive just used the tesco value 23p sponge mix to "make" fairy cakes with the kids.I was pleasantly surprised....and at 23p its kept the kids quiet(all 3 of them) for over an hour....they were allowed to decorate them with all the cheapo cake sprinkles tesco had recently.

I've started getting the value things like I'm on the bigget skinflint going for anything to do with the household & don't mind getting the odd food wise to, but have been wary of certain value foods since I tried the chicken burgers and was ill for 3 days  and yes I made sure they were cooked, but I do love the beans when I get them. Sad I know :rotfl:

Absolutely nothing wrong with Tesco Value goods. In fact, I am a bit annoyed that I can't get their Value Tomato Juice. I checked three stores and was told they weren't stocking it any more. What am I going to do:confused: If I find a store that still has some, I'm gonna buy the lot. Bit naughty making me buy the more expensive brands at double the price!

I agree with unixgirluk - I think that they deliberately do not restock the shelves with value products in order to force you to buy the more expensive ones!
We have value middle bacon in our local Tesco, but for ages they have not had the pasta penne (19p a packet!). We also used to be able to get value cherry bakewells and croissants as well - which were both very yum - but have not seen them for a long time either.

    Thanks motherkitty.

So they are still selling value middle bacon somewhere. I shall try my alternative Mr T next shop!
