Tesco Value snobbery??

Too true - I buy my veg at Aldi - and so far its been of a really high standard, and either local or British - for our carbon footprints! I noticed this morning that their lean steak mince is 79p cheaper! Hadn't noticed that before. Wait til I am off these crutches and can carry my own shopping!!!
DM, I don't know why you're on crutches, or how long you'll need them, but when I was still able to walk a fair distance on crutches, I found a rucksack a great boon for carrying my shopping. It's amazing how much I could carry in it. The teen kids hated to be seen with me with it though, although that could have been because of the rather individual design of the backpack that I chose:rotfl:Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0 -
I like my nescafe gold blend...so if anyone knows a cheap alternative that tastes similar please.
I used to a bit of a coffee snob but I can recommend Tesco Gold and Sainsbury's Gold as an alternative to nescafe gold blend. I think it's only a bit cheaper, but Tesco Gold 100g is on offer at £1 at the moment if you want to give it a try.
Almost every trolley I pasted at the supermarket today had some value products in it, so I don't feel the need to be a value snob as everyone around here is trying to keep their food bills down!Mortgage-free wannabe 2025 £571/30000 -

Lidl have Nescafe Gold Blend at £3 for 200 gms at the moment. Not as cheap as Tesco own, but very cheap on normal prices:DYou never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -

I use Asda & Lidl in the main - but I'm really miffed to see that Lidl have increased the cost of their (lovely) Sangria to over £5 a bottle:mad: its about 2 euros in the Lidl shops on the continentSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Thanks for the heads up - I haven't been in their food dept for ages, so good to hear that there are some good offers :j
PamI like the Aldi/Lidl stores, and often buy Sainsburys basics items, but I do always take a browse in our local M&S. The quality is very good, and the prices can be very good too.
Earlier in the week I bought a 1 kg bag of their granulated sugar, which I always buy because I find it makes the best cakes, plus it's fair trade, and it only costs 79p.
I also like their coffee, which often goes on buy one get one half price. Excellent quality for about the same price as supermarket own label.
I found their washing powder on BOGOF too. I bought two 1 kg boxes of their perfume free powder for about £2.20. I prefer perfume free products, and they rarely goes on sale anywhere, so this is the cheapest I've ever bought it.
I mostly pick out the bargains each week, I wouldn't do all my shopping there, but some items I always buy there because they're cheaper and better quality than elsewhere.0 -
Hi
I love it when Value products work, but some don't go down so well!
I agree with some of the earlier posts, in that if you realise that the savings you can make allow you to have the things you really want then who is losing out - no one! So some of your shopping is value, some are brands but really its all about the balance.

I ave no trouble with using value brands, but some are just gross such as Tesco Value Ketchup, whilst others are excellent such as chopped toms.
Tea though is something that I cannot take the Value brand of, but Lidl's Silver Blend (160 teabgs for around £1.69) are pretty good.Hoping this year is better than the last.0 -
OH takes lots of fruit to work each day and last week decided to try Tesco value bananas as their ordinary ones looked a bit past it. Have to say I cannot understand why they are cheaper as they tasted just as good as others. I prefer Aldi baked beans to Heinz and their pesto is also good. I would not buy cheap sausages or meat, would rather go without but have been trying some value items with success. Things like beans and tinned tomatoes I would rather buy from Aldi than value from supermarket. Large bottle of dishwasher powder from Lydl good value as it lasts ages and washes just as good as anything else I tried. I am willing to try most things but am really fussy about meat. Butcher for me every time.0

i shop mainly at aldi as my main shop as very local to me instead of going to town to asda, when im in town i pop into asda and get other stuff,
i go to lidl too but thats in the next town so pop over every 3rd week or so.
i like aldi coffee now in a bigger jar, gold label.
i did try the nutty cornflakes, but unfortunately both my daughter and hubby not impressed, so back to the kellogs nutty cornflakes, but try and get it in asda when on offer.
I decant my aldi washing up liquid in a hand wash dispenser, and a squirt is good enough, it last ages.
im going to try cheap bubble bath as an alternative to a normal handwash and decant it in the same bottle for a squirt.
ive found that will try the cheaper alternatives but if it aint tasty it aint worth getting again. So my motto is first try then decide!
Ive found that also by shopping with cash from my weekly budget helps too and gets me to try things i perhaps wouldnt have bothered with, but the cash budget sometimes forces you to look at things and what you get for your money a bit better. My daughter now shops for stuff for herself a teenager, and im so proud of her when she comes home with buy one get one free. shows my budget talks have sank into her brain thoughts lol
savvy shopper always the best,
couldnt believe she come home with a 1.00 sandles today from a shop that were in the sale and were 15.00 last week, excellent for her holiday.
continue the money saving and keep up this thread, fantastic
Have a fun weekend ciao for now MAZSealed Pot Challenge member 1525
