Jelly.....I've added fizzy no sugar lemonade - its good! I like the condensed milk idea!
Has anyone noticed that the value lines are often out of stock now?
I've shopped online - always find a code for free delivery - since I broke my leg a couple of months back.
I use their value kitchen towels - and there value chopped tomatoes amongst other things. Including the value sardines at 17p - we are fine with them and our dogs have a tin a day too - but sadly none in stock.....again! I use value nappy sacks as poo bags too!
Is this a ploy as prices are rising so fast?
Just as an add on to this - I've also found their customer services very slow lately!0 -

Too true - I buy my veg at Aldi - and so far its been of a really high standard, and either local or British - for our carbon footprints! I noticed this morning that their lean steak mince is 79p cheaper! Hadn't noticed that before. Wait til I am off these crutches and can carry my own shopping!!!0

I worked in a well known supermarket years back and the value stuff is put lower down to discourage old folk from reaching it and it's away from the eyeline of anyone else. Shocking and clever marketing all at the same time really.
I do agree though, its a very cynical way of discouraging folks from seeking it out.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -

The 8p Jelly is lovely by the way, add some condensed milk to make it fluffy jelly before it sets .....yum.Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

Apart from a well off friend of mine who does all her food shopping in M+S  Even if I had the money, I wouldn't buy food in there on principle :rotfl:
I like the Aldi/Lidl stores, and often buy Sainsburys basics items, but I do always take a browse in our local M&S. The quality is very good, and the prices can be very good too.
Earlier in the week I bought a 1 kg bag of their granulated sugar, which I always buy because I find it makes the best cakes, plus it's fair trade, and it only costs 79p.
I also like their coffee, which often goes on buy one get one half price. Excellent quality for about the same price as supermarket own label.
I found their washing powder on BOGOF too. I bought two 1 kg boxes of their perfume free powder for about £2.20. I prefer perfume free products, and they rarely goes on sale anywhere, so this is the cheapest I've ever bought it.
I mostly pick out the bargains each week, I wouldn't do all my shopping there, but some items I always buy there because they're cheaper and better quality than elsewhere.0 -
I don't mind value items but I once had to buy loads of stuff for a church bbq and got the job of costing it up. I found that the value stuff wasn't such a bargain as I thought as the burgers/sausages etc where smaller sized so it actually cost more than the named brands. The assistant also told me not to get the value teacakes/rolls as they wouldn't have been soft the following day. This was at Mr T's so couldn't comment on other stores.

All this talk of value goods has got me reminiscing! I remember 26 years ago, before the supermarkets almost had a monopoly on our shopping, I was exp 1st baby and about to leave my job when OH lost his job, we had recently moved to a larger house, so our mortgage was bigger. Consequently I took maternity leave and returned to work (hated it) then OH got a new job so I left to be ft mum and money was soooo tight! I searched around for end of day bargains and cheaper cuts of meat and fish in our market. We coped well, but my MIL thought I was poisoning the family because I served Coley fish instead of Haddock! That was the only thing she found out about and that was because it looked 'grey' instead of 'white'!
Both dd's had to scrimp & save thru uni and they have no issues with buying value goods at all.
