No matter what company how much you background check employees before they are hired you don't know how they will act with the general public. The BBC has hired less then favourable people just like any other large organisation.

    Hence no communication.

The less they know about you, the less the chance of them fitting you up.
  • I am confident that if I recorded the meeting/inspection and demonstrated all of this they wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

    Michael Shakespeare was equally confident.

    Oh deary me..

I wonder just how many people invite people with no official standing or rights into their house for "an inspection"?

    Quite.

The police don't routinely ask to inspect people's homes, to confirm they aren't committing offences, so why the hell should TVL?

Again if you don't need one then you have nothing to worry about

Again, tell that to Michael Shakespeare, and the victims of Oluwagbenga Olaniyan.

Why would you want to invite a total stranger (and a possibly un-CRB'd one at that) into your home, to search it?

Let's not forget, these are commission salesman, who get a £20 bonus, for every licence they sell, or prosecution they initiate.

If you look into the way that Capita and the BBC manage the "TVL service" you will find many issues in which reasonable due diligence is not being exercised - indeed, where legally mandated best practice is being ignored e.g. from PACE.

Therefore, those two companies and their management are ambivalent (at best) about whether harm is being done to the public and the British legal system. That is not acceptable.

You are talking about something that happened nearly 10 years ago.

They don't search your home, they are there to check if you are breaking the law.

    I doubt they are salesmen

btw I know that you're a BBC hater and the reasons why you hate the BBC are laughable

Do the Police or HMRC or DVLA or your local council call on you to check if you are breaking any laws? No. So why should TVL be any different?

Technically, it is a search. Hence Search Warrant. Check Dudley MBC vs Debenhams if you want a definition of what constitutes a search.

Sounds like they're salesmen to me

"The payment of TV licenses funds the production of the world-class programming we all enjoy. This is your chance to secure this vital funding by ensuring that people have the licence they need. You’ll make enquiries at selected residential addresses to explain, enforce and ultimately sell."

If you didn't have a motor vehicle, and got a letter from Direct Line every month, year after year accusing you of breaking the law, reminding you of the intricacies of the road traffic act and having some salesman mithering you to search your garage for a motor vehicle and threatning search warrants, death on your eldest, etc trying to sell you an insurance product you don't need then wouldn't you have a pritty poor opinion of Direct Line?

    Yes they are.

    I don't hate the BBC.

It doesn't matter if you are "faint hearted".

What matters is, that you know your rights (and that they have no power or authority), and that you deny them information and access to your property.

    To that end:-

Don't respond to their letters, in any way shape or form.

    Do not return their letters.

Do not answer the door to their doorstep callers.

If you do accidentally open the door, immediately close it again.

Don't answer any questions, nor confirm any details they have.

Don't allow them into your home.

Don't, under any circumstances, sign anything.

The above has served me well, for almost 5 years.
