One of my degus isn't very well
. I think she has broken her leg. She just seems to sit there, and when she does move, she drags herself around. Looking online, it seems this is a common thing for degus to do.
I'm going to have to find a local vet who deals with degus. I can't see the poor little thing suffer, so hopefully they can give her some drugs to ease the pain. Just trying not to think of the cost right now.

I took my little degu to the vet. She reckons she's dislocated her shoulder. She is very dehydrated where she hasn't drunk anything for the past 12 hours or so, which is why she's so lethargic.
I've left her with the vet and she's going to get some fluids into her and then address the problem with her shoulder.
Cost-wise, she said I'm looking at £150 max _pale_ - anyway, I can't let her suffer.

Aaaw, so sorry to hear about your degu. Poor little thing. P.S. our posts crossed, wrote this before your update. Vets bills are a disgrace IMO, they've cost me so much over the years but, like you say, we can't let our pets suffer so we just have to pay up.
I'm feeling distraught at the moment, and tired as I never closed my eyes for a minute to sleep last night. My lovely cat disappeared yesterday. Had his breakfast and a cuddle at 6.30 a.m. and off he went on his adventures the same as he's done practically every day for his 7 year life. Whatever he's up to (climbing tress, catching rabbits etc:eek:) he always pops home about every couple of hours to 'touch base' but yesterday he never came home at all. Or all night either and that is unknown as he loves to sleep sprawled out on our bed.
Searched everywhere several times during the evening, and into the night too, all people in the village kindly searched their gardens, sheds and outbuildings. This is such a rural area though that it's impossible to search everywhere. We searched the hedgerows, verges, thickets and ditches, anywhere he could be lying injured.
It's been a nightmare. 29 hours on and he still isn't back. This morning I phoned the RSPCA and all vets within a 10 mile radius of here in case someone found him injured by a car or something and took him to the vet. No joy.
Someone told us that it's quite common round here for cats to get stuck down rabbit holes so OH has gone across the fields again to see if he can find him. I'm just so worried. That cat has helped me through some horrible and depressing times, I can't imagine life without him.0 -
Oh no CBC - I'm so sorry. I hope he comes home soon. I wish I were in your area, so I could help you look for him.

Degu update - She's looking a lot better and has been given fluids and pain killers. The vet is keeping her overnight to get her more stable for the possibility of an operation, as she wouldn't have time to complete it today.
CBC - any news on your cat?

My degu died
. She kept having seizures and the vet said she could have had a brain tumour that caused her to incur her injury. She said it was the kindest thing to do to put her to sleep. I had a little cry yesterday and have been spoiling the other two rotten.
The bill only came to £46, which I thought was pretty good. They didn't add any fees to it and just charged me for the stuff they used on her.
To top it off, OH's parents are here for two nights. They arrived yesterday evening and are going tomorrow. So far, OH and I have paid for breakfast (£22) and we've just ordered a pizza (£20) which we also paid for. They bought a Chinese (£15) last night.

So sorry to hear about your degu, Emz:kisses3:. You did everything you could for her though, that's always a comfort when a pet dies.
Thanks so much, everyone, for the encouragement and good wishes over my lost cat. I was touched:T
I'm over the moon to report that my adored cat came home about 2 o'clock this morning:j (after being missing since breakfast on Tuesday). So out of character for him to be away for more than a couple of hours at a time.
He seems OK, although exhausted, but not injured in any way. He's a very loud cat and his distinctive foghorn miaow is now just a croak. I think he's been shut in somewhere and has been miaowing and wailing to be let out and has 'lost his voice'.
OH helped fully (if unwillingly at times:() in the search but he has been such a pain by telling me at every opportunity that it was most likely that I'd never see my cat again:eek:. We're chalk and cheese, he's the worst pessimist you could imagine whereas I'm just the opposite. I know I'm not always realistic:o, I always think something good will 'turn up', but I'd hate to have his dark attitude to life.
On the plus side, I seem to have lost a fair amount of weight (too upset/preoccupied to eat) and I can relax now and give my full attention to Wimbledon from Monday:j
I'm embarrassed to be so joyful and upbeat when you've had such an upsetting time with your lovely degu, Emz:o but my cat means the world to me.0
