Is Money Saving Expert is acting fraudulently?

MSE has no way of contact - there is no online form, there is no email, there is no phone number.

There is no way of contacting MSE if a 'third party' offer on MSE website fails to deliver the 'goods' - offer as advertised and the offer receiver points the problem back to MSE.

Down at the bottom of the page there is a "contacts" link which takes you to:

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/site/site-contacts

And of course if you go to the T&C's page, it will also give you the company details of MSE, found here:

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

Is that a question or a statement?
Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??

  • It is a statement.

MSE is funded by affiliates - a third party who acts between the advertised offers and the company who gets the consumer. Look at the MSE link for MSE finance.

"We want you to know the links are affiliated..."

Therefore MSE is responsible for issues regarding problems with offers through the association to their affiliate funding of this website.

If as stated the offer provider refuses to honour an offer by the MSE affiliate and subsequently refers the issue back to MSE who they point to as being responsible for issues/errors who do you contact.

If the consumer gets led down the garden path to sign up to a provider on the basis they will get a deal and then the deal is not forthcoming then this is fraud. The consumer has been misled into buying a product.

All the MSE contacts on the site refer to issues not related to problems with affiliate offers. There is no email contact, there is no phone contact, there is no online form for affiliate offer problems.

Heading South only fractionally, the site does say:
    • This info does not constitute financial advice, always do your own research on top to ensure it's right for your specific circumstances and remember we focus on rates not service.
    • We don't as a general policy investigate the solvency of companies mentioned (how likely they are to go bust), but there is a risk any company can struggle and it's rarely made public until it's too late (see the section 75 guide for protection tips).
    • We often link to other websites, but we can't be responsible for their content.
Sorry for whatever happened OP, but if you act on an advert or recommendation, you can't then sue the newspaper or site that carried the ad.

The affiliated links you talk about just means that MSE receives a commission if you go through that link.
In other words, if there's a link to Supertelephonecompany because it's the cheapest provider, if it has a * you'll go through directly and the main site may get some money. If it doesn't have a * you'll go through directly and it won't make money. That's the only difference.

Its no different to a site using Google Adwords and you clicking on one of those links. The website with the ad will receive a small commission.

MSE cant be held accountable if the supplier refuses to honor a deal.
We provide our Site in good faith but we can't and don't warrant the completeness, truth or accuracy of the information or other content or postings found on our Site, or their usefulness for any particular purpose. • They are not selling anything and so there is no need for them to give contact details etc.

They simply run a blog and forum to promote other peoples products/ services and use affiliate links to generate revenue from sales their advertisers make from referred visitors. Just like any other blog that generates revenue from advertising they dont have responsibility for the service provided by their advertisers.

MSE for a long time has wanted to minimise comeback, hence why the company was taken to the rarely seen "unlimited" status a few years before its sale to MSM.

Is it acting fraudulently or illegally? No. Is it as open or overt as is possible? No but there is no requirement for them to be so.
