Which current account is it you tried to open? Direct or Plus?

thats the first thing i thought when i walked out , he didnt actually discuss which account i would like thus assuming the go to account will be the direct.
  • Jeeeez on the phone at the moment to open another account...getting a proper grilling!

Yorkshire: what's the account used for?
    Me: work expenses.
Yorkshire: you've got one already for expenses already??
    Me: oh.
    Yorkshire: (long pause)
    Me: bills?
    Yorkshire: you sure?
    Me: yes
    Yorkshire: (long pause) ok

Think he heard me chuckling half way 😀

Call lasted only 15 mins and got accepted. But they did say if they come across information the account can be cancelled.:A

That could be the reason. You only can have one Current Direct but other Current accounts can be multiple.
You will only fail to learn if you do not learn from failing.

tried to get a 2nd in store and all was good until he said i cant have a 2nd switch incentive, one per customer!?

    slightly embarrassing given up now.

Personally - even though its time consuming in terms of account opening - its easier to do it by phone now I think. If you already have an account the process may just take 15 minutes - 10 minutes of that being them reading out terms and conditions.

In a branch - where they are probably overloaded with inquiries - you have to look the person in the eye and explain why you need a 3rd or 4th current account. And that's after taking an hour out - and booking an appointment - and braving the cold weather.

As for the point about one switch incentive per customer - the person opening my account on the phone volunteered I would qualify without me even raising it. Clearly there is no such policy - as people on here have already had two or more incentives paid out.

Maybe its just who you speak to - my call centre person was chirpy chatty and in a good mood. And if you are on the phone - you can simply say buy and put the phone down if its not going well.
  • Where are folk moving to after Yorkshire? I'm going to have a bash at the AIB incentive as I have done all the usual suspects

They aren't incentives from the bank direct but its worth trying the cashback sites like Quidco and topcashback.

Santander, Nationwide and Coop offer cashback of £35-45 - in addition to any incentives (not that the first two do at the moment) - if you click via topcashback and open/switch an account to them.

Not £150 -but its something - although you may need to follow up if it doesn't track and it can take 60 days+ to pay out.

If you know someone else with an account there, Nationwide could be worth a total of £175 (and maybe more!)...but the detail is perhaps for another thread.

But even if you don't, it's still worth £75 on its own through Quidco.

Did you keep the account for at least 3 months after opening it?
