Have sorted out a branch appointment to open up a further account – however even before allowing me to book this they asked why on earth I wanted to open a second account when I already had one.

I have seen the banking advisor I am meeting before – hopefully they will be more forthcoming – and they do a nice up of (presumably Yorkshire) tea while you wait so it won’t all be in vain.

How some people have been getting away with opening 4 or 5 is a mystery given the attitude I got (i.e. why on earth would you need to do that!). Maybe a phone application might be easier.

The more people that find out about this, the more likely they are to put some additional resource into closing the loophole. How big is the MSE audience? :)

The MSE "massive" can kill any good offer, mainly by posting every last detail of offers, and by copious bragging of achievements whilst pretending that none of the companies with offers would ever read MSE, or would have only a shred of commercial accumen.

Next one up will be the Tesco savings DDs. You heard it here first.

Many were sweating long before that though (early 2014?), when they misread the Tesco letter about removing the deposit by debit card facility.

Personally it wouldn't bother me if they tightened up, since I have two other accounts that allow multiple DDs. And there are plenty of other options available if you seek them out. :D
  • Tried to open two more Plus with YB but I got referred. I think it is because my account isn't opened yet - I asked the advisor before if this is still okay and she said yes.

Will see what the [STRIKE]undertakers[/STRIKE] underwriters say about it this week, probably should be okay because my account will be opened by the time they will look into this. Hmph.

Got accepted and two more accounts opened :)

  • Hi all, this is my first post… so howdy!
I have had my Barclays current account in some form since I was a child, and I have a joint account, savings and even applied for my mortgage through this bank. I am really tempted to switch to make an extra £150, however I am extremely daunted to do so. can some kind soul talk me through the process. Do i have to close my Barclays current account completely? thanks

You can create a donor account with your Barclays and and use that to switch. And look on the previous pages on this thread to understand better.

I'd suggest you read about the £150 offer for a start and then the accounts which are available.

The answer to your question is 2a in here:

Thats what i was wondering about - apologises i didn't phrase it very well. How would I create a donor account? just pop in the bank and ask to open an additional account? would I need to set up a standing order or a direct debit for that account… only to instantly switch it?
