Well I finally got round to calling and I failed their online identification. I've opened 5 credit cards and 2 current accounts elsewhere in the past 2 months completely online without needing to provide any ID, so there you go. Anyway I don't live too far from the London branch so may pop in later this week.

Make sure you ring up first and request an appointment with a banking advisor – the reception staff and counter staff won’t be able to help you as they cannot access the correct system. That will save you a wasted visit first time round – or a two hour wait for the advisor to become free.

Also don’t assume there is an issue at all – I was asked for the same in a separate follow up call. Didn’t stop them sending out the pack confirming the account was open – before I went into the branch to provide the photo ID! Also check your credit file for searches – did they use the correct details.

You will get there in the end!

Account now opened and pack received. Just need to wait for donor account to be ready to be switched and all will be good to go.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
  • Two weeks and 245 posts later, Mr Balders finally managed to open his account... in branch. All's well that ends well (and with £150).

Have you already received the £150 too? Mighty fast if so!
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.

Anyone received account opening confirmation yet once all documents returned back to YB/CB?

I sent my documents back last Thursday. Just checking how long it takes for them to process it.

    Thanks
    MS
  • I've (he's) not got it yet, but I've grown accustomed to counting my (his) switching bonuses before they hatch! I'm (he's) hatching another £100 on top of this thanks to first direct as well :)
  • Have just set the ball rolling applying for a Readycash account over the phone with Yorkshire Bank. All very straightforward taking less than ten minutes.

Can someone clarify. If you already have a current account direct account with either Clydesdale or Yorkshire, can you open a different current account and do a switch to qualify for the £150 ?

Not really – however you can use the current account direct account if you haven't been paying in an average of £1k monthly over the last six months and switch an account from another bank into it. But switching internally won't work.

    "Offer only available when:
    (a) you open a new Personal or Private current account; or
    (b) you switch to an existing Personal or Private current account which has been credited with less than
an average of £1000 per month over the six month period prior to 17th November 2014, or since you
opened that account if that is a shorter period of time.
