  • Received £150 compensation today for delay in opening the account due to missing paperwork and confused advisers. Worth complaining when the service isn't good enough sometimes!

I would say they are rather stupid if they expect potential buyers not to see straight through this cunning plan.
Possibly - but look what happened when the Co-operative Bank 'merged' with the Britannia Building Society. You'd have thought they'd have checked out that risky loan book.........;)
  • Vixen - switch it to a joint Clydesdale/Yorkshire if you havent already got loads - assuming they do extend the offer until end March as discussed earlier in the thread........

Did enquire but needed to speak to both of us on the phone, couldn't sort it before cut off.
Thought of switching single account instead

Anyone know if you can switch joint and single?
Typically confused and asking for advice

Yes - assuming the offer is still available and they are willing to open one of each. Given its no longer on the website its possible its already been pulled - or if it does reappear for March may have different and more restrictive terms (e.g. one incentive per person).

The days of getting 12 accounts opened and 12 £150 incentives may be a thing of the past!

PS Just out of interest has any one tried today - and been told the incentive is still available? Its been removed from the guide on here for switching incentives.

The Coop bank got the Britannia for free, so it probably looked like a good deal at the time.

Someone on hot uk deals states the deal will be back on 9/3. No source or additional information given.

Yes - its on page 22 of the comments here

A subsequent poster asked them how they know - possibly because they work for them I would guess!

We will see if and how they change the terms and conditions - but given how people with multiple accounts already were starting to get rejected recently it may well be the terms will be more restrictive.

Also not sure why the need to wait a week - possibly to give their exhausted call centre staff a break, train them on the new terms and to clear the backlog they must have!

I'm thinking the gap of a week or so will, as well as giving the call centre staff a break, enable the condition that if more than £1,000 has been paid into a YB or CB account in the last six months then such an applicant cannot receive the switch bonus if they apply for the new offer, if there is one. Hope I'm right in citing this, its from memory!

As £1,000 had to be paid to get the bonus up to 28th Feb., that precludes all those who have already applied if they paid in £1,000?

So a new tranche of customers will be herded through the gates hungry for the switch bonus and who may also be subject to other changes in T&C;)

Well we can all have an interesting week's speculation! Perhaps they are just waiting for Yorkshire boy to come back from his £150 incentive funded winter break - so he can open up 10 more accounts to pay for his summer holiday.:D

How about using some of the free money to pay for a flight to Northern Ireland?

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/compare-best-bank-accounts#mands (scroll down a bit....)

"You can also earn £125 by fully switching current accounts to First Trust Bank's Plus Current Account. But the account can only be opened in First Trust branches, and these are all located in Northern Ireland."
