Having now applied for a current direct account, I have tried to register for Internet banking both via the website and using the app and in both cases it asks for the debit card number.
Since having a debit card is optional, not sure why they require a debit card number for registration purposes since I have an account number and sort code. Guess I will have to wait for the debit card to arrive before I can register and hence pay in the required £1000.

I was told the same re debit card but I was also told I could register by phoning the YB choosing a 4 digit telephone banking PIN myself during the call for future tel banking and then they would send out a 10 digit Activation Code for me to use to register for online banking. The Activation Code can be changed to a Password of your choice. Haven't received the code yet though so can't tell you if it all works!

Maybe the debit card condition is to verify your identity otherwise anyone with your sort code and account number could theoretically register and transact on your account?

Maybe phoning them and passing security gets around the debit card stipulation but they did tell me I HAD to phone them to get the Activation Code to set up Internet Banking.

Hope this helps I'm learning the ropes too with these procedures!

My Activation Code is coming in the post but then I didn't give a mobile number. Guess a text would be quicker for those in a hurry!?

Though I don't mind (much), I didn't really expect my 'switch' a/c money to drop into a black hole for up to 10 days.

Debit card req'd to register for internet banking which they state may take up to 10 days. Looks from above posts I may be obliged to register for telephone banking first, I definitely don't want to hand over my mobile number so if I must wait for an activation code in the post I might as well wait for the d/c.

Oh well, will be worth if for free £150, then I'm off for some more free money!
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

After the switch forms have been signed and returned, how long does it usually take for them to actually open the account?

In my limited experience an account may be opened on the day, to up to 3 days after they receive your paperwork. Then its down to the Switch date you chose +7 days or more to make it fully open for transactions.

To qualify for the £150 the switch date selected must be within 21 days of the date you signed the mandate.

Addendum on 3 March in view of subsequent posts: the above post was made to be relevant to the post I quoted. It doesn't however contain ALL the T&C of the offer, for which anyone concerned is advised to read the T&C provided by the Banks concerned.

.... and
(b) credit your account with at least £1000 in a single payment within 31 calendar days following your switch completion date, provided:
(i) this does not include any balance transferred as part of your full switch; and
(ii) this does not include any internal transfers from any other Clydesdale Bank or Yorkshire Bank Personal or Private current account you hold with us (either in your sole name or held jointly with someone else).

They changed this part several weeks into the offer, it now includes balances from account switched.

Bold is my edit.

Is this right, don't remember that in the terms and conditions, credit £1000 yes, but not the 'in a single payment' bit. AIUI it as long as during the 31 days the total credits add up to £1000 you were good for the £150. I.e you could transfer the same £1 in and out a thousand times if you want and it would still count.
