Hey everyone. Just wondering a point mentioned by an earlier poster. Maybe yorkshire boy, Harvey's or castle96 Or anybody else for that matter can answer this. Do you actually definitively need the 16 digit long card number to get the switch incentive? Anyone been successful without? Thanks.

they certainly wanted the card number from me when applying, both on the telephone and in branch.

If the account you are switching from has a debit card then I believe you need to provide this. If you have never had a debit card on the account then just your sort code and account number should be sufficient. I have switched an account without a debit card before but it was probably because I never had a debit card on the account to start with.

that is interesting. they are certainly prepared to portray it as 'needing' your debit card details in order to be able to transfer:think:

Debit card numbers just make it easier for them to do using the new switching system but they can use just the sort code and account number if they have to. The advisor that opened my first YB account told me this and I switched the account with no problems and no card number.

But does that qualify for the incentive and have u had it pay out, I presume so but they specifically implied (3 different advisors) that they must have it to qualify.
  • So here is my story... I went into the London Piccadilly branch yesterday afternoon at 5:30pm and said "I hear you have a current account that pays 2% interest" as I didn't want to sound like I was just there for the free £150. She said yes, so I said "and you're paying £150 bonus" she said yes. I asked for a form to apply and she said you have to speak to an adviser and there were no appointments. I said I can only come at 5:30pm after work. She said there are none available this week and maybe next week. She went to check and came back saying none next week but I could apply online. I said I heard the £150 is ending on Saturday. She said it is being extended to March but they've not been told the dates exactly. If I email her my details she will let me know if they get any appointment cancellations.

I've just gone on to their website and it says book a personal appointment or book a phone appointment but there isn't an application to fill in as such. Is that right?

So fingers crossed I will be ok, and they extend into March as well.

The only branch CB/YB have south of Northampton in England is the Piccadilly branch. Given how well publicised the offer is its hardly surprising they are block booked. They have a very friendly Australian banking advisor there presumably seconded from NAB - she makes a good cup of Yorkshire (bank) tea too - but they really aren't equipped to cope with the volumes compared to those branches in the bank's main network area (i.e. Scotland and the north).

So I would try applying by phone if you are in a hurry and your only alternative is Piccadilly - calling the freephone numbers (e.g. 0800 202122 for YB) should be easier next week assuming they extend the offer as looks likely. As its your first account you should be fine.

The switch forms ask you to provide a debit card number - so if you have one you should quote it. If you don't have a debit card on your old account there is no need to - as you can't - but that is unusual these days.

Don't always believe what they say on the phone - they have been telling some applicants its one incentive per customer. But some people have already had 8 payouts.
