  • I've no relationship with Yorkshire Bank but have opened 10 with NO referrals...however what I have done is... put a decent chunk of money in and used the accounts as they are meant to be. As I said in one of my previous posts...make yourself appear to be a good customer...a customer they hope will have further products...credit cards, loans, mortgages, savings accounts etc etc.

Switching a quid, transferring 1000 in and out in seconds...then swiping out 150 quid leaving the account empty. Anyone surprised why they don't want those kind of customers?

I'm not trying to be mean but just trying to keep things real...

    Thanks to both above posters

But do you think they have any way of monitoring usage for individual accounts in that way?

And the terms and conditions would mean they'd have to pay the incentive, regardless....?

The point here is about opening new accounts - they clearly can't stop you getting the incentive on accounts already opened but they can stop you opening more to get more incentives. They want long term customers who use their current accounts - not people who just join for the incentive - so you have to give the impression you are the former to get approved for more accounts.

And yes they do have the systems in place to check your existing accounts with that bank as they will appear on their screens generally - and are likely to do a credit check as well on phone applications for each application.

What I am less clear about is - say you have 5 accounts with the Clydesdale and decide to open your first with Yorkshire on their different systems how much will come up. Either way switch £5, pay in £1000, take it out next day and post no other transactions for a month - and well they aren't likely to think you need more accounts when you aren't even using the ones you have!

    Ahh! Thanks

I should be OK then as I've opened all the accounts they're ever going to let me have!

8pm on weekdays - but it might make more sense to ring when they open at 8am.

Ok, I can't call at 8am due to the school run.

It looks like they keep a record of the money you say you'll be paying in, as I was grilled, and then they said no to another current account as i'd not put in what I said I would.
I have been putting money in, just not the amount I thought, still triple figures though.
The person was waffling on so I hung up. Will try again.

I got my call back today from Yorkshire Bank as they promised. I asked to switch 3 accounts to them, requesting one Current Account Direct and two Current Account Readycash for budgeting.

I was 'referred to head office' about the Current Account Direct but they rang me back and said that it had been approved. They gave no reason for the referral and nor did I think to ask.

I forgot to actually ask that I qualified for the switching bonus, it was never mentioned. I asked for all 3 of my existing accounts to be switched over to the Yorkshire Bank Current Accounts.

They took details of each account I was switching, namely the sort code and account number. Then asked for the long number and expiry number from my Debit Cards for each account. Is this normal to ask for them? They said something about it meaning it would give the existing bank authority for the switch and they could take them now or I could enter them in the forms myself.

We also agreed a switch date in mid-march for the actual switches to take place.

Does from all that sound as though I will qualify for the switch bonus on each account, so 3 x bonus?

I have never used the switching system before so a bit unsure and in all the information I forgot to ask about the bonus, the main reason really for switching - doh!

    Many thanks.

Yeh all seems pretty normal...looking good for your switching incentive. They don't always mention it as they have other spiel they have to go through...
  • Also try not to say savings, the agents then go off on one to get you to open a savings account instead of a current account!!
