I have managed to open a Clydesdale account and a Yorkshire bank account using the switch service. Hopefully will get 2 lots of £125 :-)

keep us updated did you do this in the same call?

May be they did it in Branch(es) as it it not possible to open and switch in the same phonecall. But may be they got confused as the incentive isn't £125.

I was told that over the phone - all approved all fine.

Then I got a voicemail message saying that wasn't quite correct and I have to go to a bank branch to provide photo ID and proof of address - something I have never had to do while opening bank/savings accounts applied for on line in the last 2 years with the same details.

Going to a Clyesdale/Yorkshire branch could be a bit of an issue if you live in the south - there aren't many and it could involve a long trek! But they didn't seem too bothered by that - fine for me but it might not have been.

So until you get confirmation in writing and your online account is activated - don't assume its all OK!

I'll just keep my fingers crossed , not only is it a 250 mile round trip. I also don't have any photo ID

I did a search on their site.

My two nearest branches are in Regent Street - the second nearest is apparently 327 miles away in Workington.

Assuming you are in Ceredigion - Workington is also listed as your nearest branch. So hope you don't have to do this - as it would be a 500 mile round trip!:D

Why there is no mechanism to send these in by post is beyond me - or why they couldn't have written me a letter or sent an email. The voicemail message they left asked me to call a number that was unobtainable - its almost like they are trying to discourage me!

But I've gone this far now!

    Are, I used Yorkshire bank

Nearest branch is Gloucester. Would still tell them to Stuff it though as the loss of a days work is more than the incentive.

I'm very lucky as my nearest branch is 6 miles away :j, but here's hoping it doesn't come to that! Will be great to hear reports of the first ones being opened.

Hoping I won't have to, but if I do have to provide ID/go to branch for whatever reason, can I go to Yorkshire despite opening a Clydesdale account? Nearest Yorkshire is 8 miles whereas nearest Clydesdale is 75...

Well I hope that doesn't happen to me as I don't have any photo ID since my passport expired a couple of months ago. I object to renewing it until I'm actually going to use it to go somewhere rather than for ID.

    Hi everyone

Sorry if someone's mentioned our guide already, I haven't read the whole thread.

There's more info on the Clydesdale and Yorkshire accounts, and other accounts, in our Best Bank Accounts guide.

be careful which a/c you initially open. The 'plus' a/c cannot earn interest. The 'direct' a/c can - 2% on £3k (need £1k in/out p/mth).

    Has anyone successfully opened a C and a Y a/c ?

It's a little disappointing that the guide refers to a minimum income requirement for accounts. There is no need to pay salary into an account and the money doesn't need to stay so suggesting the minimum salary to hold a Lloyds account as £1500 x 12 isn't really true.

Back to this thread, will be applying later for this. Just a shame you have to phone not apply online.
