Very suspicious opening more accounts when for example the previous ones have a couple of quid in...be sensible...make yourself look like good customers.
There's a 3 figure sum in all mine.

I always switch a couple of SOs when doing these deals. My YB SOs are still paying out on the 8 accounts paid out so far, and also on the other 3 due next month.

And I also make sure I cycle circa £1K each month on the same date.

It's a little messy in that I've money flying about all over the place, so I'm looking forward (in a way!) to them killing the offer, whenever that is...because its torture for me trying to resist going for accounts 12 & 13! Perhaps the thought of a decline, and review of my banking, will prevent me going further? However, if they do extend the offer, a month is a long time and I'm not sure I can hold out that long.

I can resist anything but temptation!

Just making sure you know that in order to get the £150 cashback you need to deposit £1000 within 31 days after the switch. After that you can do what you want.

Apologies if you know this but wouldn't want you miss out.

Yeah, I knew this :D My internet history will probably show as 90% for this particular thread.

As my switch date is the 3rd of March, I plan to transfer £700 from my wages (BoS Current Acc) into the BoS Cardcash account on 27th Feb. There's already £300 in the Cardcash account, so on the switch date the required £1000 will already be in the account. The money left in my BoS Current account will be left for my bills etc, and I'll just use the new Clydesdale account for spending that month.

The guy who completed my application did mention he's been checking the incentive pay-outs from the switched accounts they've been dealing with (I assumed he meant branch-specific switches). He said it's been roughly 31 days after the £1000 has been credited to the new account before the £150 is paid (I am in no rush anyway, so I'm happy to wait a little longer regardless).

A very good idea - keep the accounts busy, do your shopping with the debit cards (even if its small amounts), book tickets, make small withdrawals. even if its on a small balance. What happens once the offer ends at the end of March and you have had all your £150s- well that's up to you.

Because if you are on your xth application and they see all you have done on your previous accounts is paid £1k in, taken it out the next day and made no other transactions they may well take a view you really don't need another account - despite you claiming otherwise.

And remember you are doing a good deed - because their Australian owners will be able to sell the banks for a higher price if they can show they have more customers/current account holders.:D
  • I received paperwork from YB today dated 17th so three days from application.

My paperwork for the account application on the 12th is still to arrive, I contacted YB and they said its because I asked for Large Print and that goes to a different department:)

So don't request Large Print:( if you can cope without it.
  • I think they must be clamping down on multiple accounts now. Have five at the moment and just tried to ring to open more but was told five was ample. I gave reasons such as expenses, billing, investments but was told I would not be allowed to open any more. Tried to ring back to see if there was a more helpful operator but they must have logged my previous call and they repeated the same thing. Not sure if making a branch appointment would help or if I will just get the same response?

It does (or at least did for me...several times). Even though I couldn't quite see the screen, I'm sure if all my accounts* were listed they would have said something...so my guess is they aren't all visible?

    * They would probably have filled the screen!

I saw the screen when I had a branch appointment and can confirm:
    • they can see any open and previously closed accounts you have with YB in a YB branch or CB in a CB branch but not both;
    • they can see any previous applications that are active (e.g. any made by telephone for accounts that aren't open yet but are pending).

On the first point when the woman was checking through the account histories, she saw a transaction for 'switch incentive' on one of the accounts and said I wouldn't be eligible for another(!).

On the second point, when she opened a new 'Know your customer' screen for a new application she could see the list of previous applications and mentioned that I'd done some by telephone but never went any further and still went ahead and opened the branch accounts.

Were all of your Yorkshire/Clydesdale accounts opened in branch? Or have you had the pleasure of dealing with their amazingly enthusiastic, motivated and delightful telephone advisors?

Mixture of both, but after a particularly severe grilling on my second '2 account' call I resorted to branch applications.

re your earlier post not sure you quite understood....Its only one current account DIRECT you can have ... not just one current account. In theory you can open multiple current accounts of other types e.g. current account plus -although see previous posts ....it is getting harder..!!

Thanks for that, I thought my posts may get lost, it is a very active thread.

I didn't realise at first but then someone pointed it out to me that you can only have on Current Account Direct.

When applying online to get the phone appointment I had selected Current Account Direct for both of them, one with Clydesdale and one with Yorkshire.

But what I am hoping to do is say to the person who calls first, that I actually want to open:

1 x Current Account Direct (as I want the 2% interest offer) - for everyday spending and to have my wages paid into
2 x Current Account Readycash - For bills

I have 3 old Lloyds Vantage accounts that are sitting dormant so plan to use these to switch and hopefully get the £150 switching bonus on each account giving a nice £450 in total.

I don't have any other current accounts I could switch so hopefully 3 won't be too many for them as I don't have any other accounts with Yorkshire or Clydesdale and never have.

Can I ask if it would be okay to ask to do them all with one bank, i.e. Yorkshire and all in the one phone call rather than having to get 3 different calls? Or is it likely to have more success splitting them between banks and also not trying to get 3 at once. I hope my reasons for having them would be okay.

All of the accounts qualify and can be operated online, you decide the account when on the phone.

Thanks - hopefully if the above answers to my questions are that yes you can have them all with the one bank in the one phone call then it will make life easier having them all under the one set of internet banking rather than having them split between Clydesdale and Yorkshire.
