I think if they sound a bit grumpy when they first answer, then put the phone down and try again.

I wonder if the assistants are able to see any transactions on your account(s) when you call to open another, or do they just see how many you have?

Everything I'd say. The lady on the line yesterday couldn't find my details (surname wrong) but was able to search by advisor when I said the name of the person who opened my first account.

Has anyone on here actually received more than one £150 incentive?

    Yes.

    See: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=67560834&postcount=859

    You haven't started yet then?
  • Yes.

I'm a bit of a wimp and Switch virgin I'm afraid but it intrigues me what you all get up to. I did my very 1st switch by opening up YB ready cash account over the phone a few weeks back & I think the switch is set to happen around 23rd this month.

In the mean time I've opened up a Barclays current account with the intention of going for the M&S account but now I'm wondering about getting another Ready Cash account if I can. I spoke to nice lady at our local branch who will not open another account for me until she gets clarification from above that it's ok to do :(

My husband opened up a YB account and switch in branch after I opened mine and his is all switched and sorted now. Just waking for his £150

Go for this one before the deadline! You can always go for m&s again later. I'm the bigger wimp I read about this and convinced OH to do it but it took me another week to ring up myself so I'm 2 accounts behind him now :( Oh well any money we get will be nice as we are budgeting our pay like crazy for a mortgage in 2 years time.

Never did a switch before either but it's been no hassle, especially when I'm switching an account I opened for the sole purpose of switching :rotfl:
  • Thanks Lplatesaver, another quick question.
Now that I have a Barclays current account ready to switch I was wondering do I have to pay something into it in order to switch?

I'm so glad I stumbled into this thread at the end of last week! I have no experience of YB or CB and as I am in Northern Ireland, we have no branches here of either bank, meaning my application(s!) will have to be done over the phone. I have several accounts I can switch from (all opened very, very recently ;) ) so will do as many as I can (or have the nerve to do!) - but can I just ask a couple of things from those with experience of this (I promise I have read back through the thread):-

    1. Would anyone recommend one over the other? I mean, would I be better applying to YB or applying to CB (I assume once I apply to one, I cannot then apply to the other and therefore all my new accounts must be with the first one?)

    2. I have read the T&Cs but just to clarify, does the £1000 have to be paid in one lump, and not made up of several deposits over the course of the relevant period?

    3. I was intending to only open basic accounts as I want to avoid a hard credit search - can I open multiples of these or must I choose at least one of the direct/plus etc accounts?

Thanks for taking the time to read

OH put £1 in his just so there's something to switch. Other people have set up standing orders on the current account. Make sure if you have a debit card on the Barclays account to activate it (if it needs) and write the number on the switch form or the switch might fail.

Thank you for the advice, I do have a card, haven't signed it though, I will go have a look at it now

Do you mind if I ask what a "donor" account is? I have seen it mentioned a few times. Is there any particular bank that is better to use for opening them (online preferably)?
