When I spoke to the customer service he said I can switch from any account to the current account with them but in order to get £150 bonus he said it should be a salary account. May be I could have asked better I do not know.

Hope to hear from some one who switched with any other account other than the salary account and got the Bonus. I will wait for some time.

    Thank you

They did want to know specifically if you were going to be paying your salary in – but it didn’t seem to be an issue if you weren’t. They were just wanting to know how you would be funding the account – for money laundering purposes I presume.

They do want your employer details and net salary and your rent or mortgage payments and if you had outstanding loans or any credit cards – but I assume that is just for the credit check.

It may of course vary from person to person at the call centre – I expect the staff are a little annoyed at whoever on high decided to introduce the offer as they seem swamped and while friendly rather exhausted!

Lets of course wait and see who gets their £150 payment or doesn’t!

Went to apply and have had to give a time for them to call me back. I imagine they're quite the busy Barbaras at the moment.

The "main page" doesn't determine whether the incentive is paid. The Full Terms and Conditions determine that.As has been said many times on here, don't place any reliance on what you're told by front-end staff, as they often use interpretation and guesswork in discussions with customers/potential customers. The T&Cs, as referenced above, were drafted by people a little higher up the foodchain...and the written word will always trump the spoken word. :)

But think about it...how would they even know it's your main account or not?

    HI,

    You may be right..

But this is what I see on the main page.. main account should be your salary account .... correct me if I am wrong ...

Simply use our Current Account Switch Service to transfer your main bank account and to close your old account. When you have paid in at least £1000* in a single payment within 31 days of your switch completing, we’ll give you £150**

Surely the full terms and conditions linked from the webpage (which say nothing about a main account merely any current account you hold) trump the webpage legally? How would they know anyway – or be able to judge. Self employed people won’t have a salary payment nor will pensioners?

Some (many/most/all?) banks will insist their employees receive their salary payments into an account held at their employer's bank.

Most savvy people will want to make some interest on their cash before spending it, so will have (and straight away transfer it to) a, for example, TSB Plus account. On here they will have 7 or 8 DDs, a couple of standing orders, and make 5 or 6 ATM withdrawals a month.

Question: Which of the above is their "main account"?

In an ideal world they want your main account. however there is no way of enforcing that so it is not written into the T&Cs. If it is not in the T&Cs it is not a requirement

Simple 20 minute phone call to a call centre that was presumably in Scotland. No ID required as all electronic checks were passed - just a case of waiting for the paperwork.
  • they told me that they need to ring me back as its been referred to their credit check department :/ never had this before

I had that with a credit card application a few days ago. Received a 'rejected' letter today. First time for everything.
