Sleepyjones I actually said maybe it is because of this attitude that some people decide not to get involved in the forum not what you have put and I meant that people may see this and then decide it is better for them to stay in the background rather than get involved and then be judged on what they are or are not doing. Why people choose to or choose not to do anything is their business and no-one elses and if you feel you should have a say on what people do not do then I guess that is up to you.
I would like to add that I do not class you as an enemy far from it and I find it difficult to believe that anyone else on here would either and I'll refrain from adding anymore to the discussion because I don't want you to feel that way at all.

I am now feeling better about posting this due to friends.

When I first read this I felt quite bad when the poster was saying it was mean not to post. Well I have given quite a lot to mse over the few years I have been here. Although I no longer post I have spent money, been out to buy mags, spent my time posting searching ect.

But my first love are childrens comics these are expensive each costing £2.99 to £4.99 these I do not share here or anywhere else, it's my choice if I wish to post or not. The prizes can range from iPads, phones or children's toys. Most of which you can tell adults would love, so would reduce the chances of children winning. I feel these comics are for children and should be for children to win.. I do not need anyone making me feel bad for not posting. It's no wonder some newbies do not join in and contribute when you get this attitude. Perhaps the poster did not mean it the way it came out but that's the way it came across. :(

It makes little difference to the BGs who can move them by the 100 but this is the thread for posting about expired ones

  • I post the odd comp. It is a bit of a minefield as to who does what already etc. I think we all enter comps as a bit of a hobby. and this site is a brilliant way of doing so. Newbies make mistakes as they don't research first and just dive in oh well! x
2014 wins. ginger beer, razor, football, coffee, cinema tickets, walking socks, shaun the sheep books! :p
  • It's not really those who simply don't post comps or anything that is really the thing. To me it's more the people who brag on IWIWIW (especially those who do so frequently (and especially those whose posts are braggy in manner)) on winning comps they found elsewhere and could easily have posted on here. And people in CCC who expect help relating to a prize where it's clear they didn't post here even though the comp wasn't up and would have been easy for them to post) (there is a recent example I can think of but I won't put any more details as I don't want to be breaking rules re discussing forum members!)

While I can understand the sentiment posted on here of not wanting to share to stand more chance of winning yourself I personally could never do that - especially if you imagine if everyone thought that with every comp they post that they'd like to win - there'd be almost no comps posted! (Not having a go at those who do do this, just saying I wouldn't ever feel right in doing so myself!)
And no I don't go out of my way to search specifically for comps to post - with the number that have been posted, then having to check they're not dupes, or likely to be being posted at the same time, it would take far too long for me. But on occasions that I happen to spot a comp anywhere that I haven't already seen on here I will always check if it is here, and post if appropriate. (The only exceptions to this have been very close-ending comps mainly on FB, especially if I've been on FB on phone/ipad and not near a PC as I find posting from them (and doing the searches necessary) much harder. I occasionally may forget by the time I do get to a PC, and anyway most often they have been posted by that time!)

For me personally (I am certainly not putting down anyone who doesn't feel the same way) it's hard to be a regular user of this forum without wanting to give something back. I would love to find comps to post and I have tried and it is quite possibly because I'm not very search engine savvy I have never found any that haven't already been posted. If someone could tell me the best words to search with I'd be well up for doing it. Seriously, send me a PM or something and I'll happily give it a go!

I "had a go" at standing in for someone else when the postal/text and phone thread was different (maybe earlier this year?) and I made a prize pigs ear of it! But folk were absolutely fabulous about it...I certainly didn't get put off of trying again. LOL, they might never ask me again ;)

I do buy Take A Break magazine and I think (hope) that folk know I will step up and post if needed. BUT I will NOT, even under threat of violence do word searches. *very stern face*

So to answer the OP's post... I don't know why folk post, I'm just grateful they do. And every time I enter something I'd love to win and especially every time I have a win I make a wish that all posters of comps have 10 times the luck I have.

    R xx

    Hi Dreaming_of_Kubera
Go to Google and set it for UK only and within last 24 hours
Then search things like 'Win Competition' [example link https://www.google.co.uk/?gfe_rd=cr&ei=VSNqVNOrGYah7Abv4oCgAQ&gws_rd=ssl#q=win+competition&cr=countryUK%7CcountryGB&tbs=ctr:countryUK%7CcountryGB,qdr:d ] or 'Win holiday' or 'Win DVD' or 'Win tickets' etc etc. Just search the word 'Win or Competition' with whatever you think might be an available comp. You'll find find loads that way, although I bet most will already be posted, but some wont be.

I post competitions for the "Thanks" because when you reach a certain number Martin Lewis comes round to your house and makes tea for you.

I post when I can; a lot of the time I find something and it's already been posted, but there are the odd ones that haven't so I make the effort. I just think it's incredibly selfish not to, especially when there are the select few who post all the time when they needn't do so.

    I agree with this 100%
It's not often I post a comp, perhaps once or twice a week, as 99.99% of things I come across, whether on FB or in an email or on a leaflet or whatever, will already be on here by the time I search. (Either that or they have a regular poster already)
Now if I do find something that hasn't been posted, do I think a) Oooh great it's not on MSE! Less entries = more for ME!!! or b) I'll post that up so that more people can see it and I can give a little back in return for the 100s of comps a day that other people post and I'm happy to enter!

Obviously it's b. And I think that most people on here would agree. If you can give a little back then do. If you can't find a comp to post, or don't want to, then you can also do as has been mentioned above: helping with answers, pointing out T&Cs, correcting errors.... it's all teamwork!
