Why do people post competitions?

  • I rarely find comps that haven't been posted but always post when I do. I also try to provide extra info (eg. answers to questions) on comps when it's something that will help others.
I can't understand anyone not wanting to (other than laziness or greediness) (I don't mean those who don't have time or are unable to post for any other reason, I mean those that could but choose not to).
I am certainly very thankful to those who do regularly post vast numbers of comps (including those who can't be human, not only posting comps all hours of day and night but also editing ones they've already posted with no need for a PM!)

    Why do I post comps?

    1) Because Cowell and Ant & Dec are always on the TV.

    2) Because my football team are too carp to ever be on TV

    3) Because it gets me out of washing up!

    4) Because it gives Laks :A the chance to get a cup of tea :D

Can't really understand how people can say "They're always on here already" ... I manage to find quite a few that aren't posted (a lot that are too), as so do the main comp posters (obviously).

Because I believe it is nice to be nice... & most people on here are very nice... :D

I believe in Karma, people who know of comps and do not post them will be unsuccesful...

I would hope if I broke down in the street someone would stop to offer help (I do)

I have recently lost my job (health issues) and I now have the time to post... (If Laks hasn't posted them all) :rotfl:

It is great to see people on here winning rather than anonymous winners... :j

    I could go on!

I tend not to question why but am just grateful that they do.

Scolding people for posting a win for a competition that they may have found elsewhere (most compers use several sites to find listed comps and not just MSE) seems a bit self defeating as it'll just put people off posting on the comp boards at all. If someone posts *most* new comps they find but not all (for the variety of reasons listed ) and happens to win one that slipped through -having a go at them will simply from discouraging any new comps.

People are human, they are also busy -some people have the time and inclination to search and post new comps -others grab their comping time where they can .

I'm guessing that was directed at me :)
I certainly don't scold people in the I won forum, I just mentioned it in this topic and it's the first time I've mentioned it.
You get the odd one off that you quickly enter and forget about, I mentioned that in my post too that I've also entered some and not posted because a sometimes I don't think it's worth the hassle if I don't consider the prize to be that good.

I work full time, I live alone and I've got 2 dogs ( a husky and a malamute which need a lot of exercise)... if I can find the time, there really is no excuse :)

Re the bolded red I would question why one would do such as that.

The comps are posted,in the main, via MSE,so why 'play' on these other sites. To do so just seems to bring a world of problems re dupes?

That is unless you have lots of comping friends that are not on MSE that must be thanked for comps that are also on MSE.

Am I being to simplistic in my approach?

Using multiple comping portals is just pure silly, but that is just my view & we can all comp as we see fit.

It's 2:51 ... Let's see how long it takes me to find and post a comp that's not on here.

PS: I will assure you that the win mentioned here was not found by the member that posted re the win & was found anywhere but via MSE.

It had such a short run & Google cache shows no returns so I take it as via MSE.
