ETA - not sure who it is that says they enter low entry comps, but maybe they mean things like Pinterest etc which are posted here, but get v few entrants. Or maybe I am just giving them too much benefit of the doubt?! :rotfl:

yes you are cos you are too nice :)
they enter low entry twitter comps mainly, i think. personally i have never come across a twitter comp with few entries - which is why i have given up twitter lol

I too rarely find a comp which isnt on here although i do spend a lot of time checking, However i like to think i do my lil bit for the forum in other ways,
    > I will often check to see if comps which have ended are still on the board and press Expired when/where necessary.
    >If i can help with answers/links/likes etc i will
    >Around advent time i often find myself up past midnight so can post new questions/links for that days daily comp.

So its not just about the putting the comps online its also i think those other things people do which help keep it a nice place to comp from

Honestly the people who post comps regularly - you rule!

It's taking me so long to get up to speed with the board - currently up to 25th November  I simply don't have time to post any

And then today I saw a FB that I was pretty sure hadn't been posted and so I did. And it made me appreciate the posters even more.

I actually defriended some people on FB because they never interacted on here or posted comps but entered everything on FB. They never EVER shared. Screw that. Ok, you might not have time to post everything you find but you can share once in a while

Thanks again. When I win the Euromillions the iPhone6s are on me :rotfl:

You are a comping anomaly! Doesn't everyone want an iPhone6, a trip to Iceland and Fault In Our Stars goodybag? :D

I do post a few comps, but I tend to not post comps for smaller things ... something like a £25 Amazon gift card doesn't excite me, so I generally won't enter it and won't post it if I see it ... maybe the occasional one on Twitter 'cause it's too easy to just click retweet and go, but I wouldn't post that on here, not out of desperation to win it myself, just because I don't consider it worth the hassle of searching to see if it's already here then posting all the details :)

There's also some FB comps that I'll enter and not post, but that's generally because I know there's someone who posts the comps from that particular page on a regular basis so there's a bit of not wanting to step on anyone's toes in that scenario.

As far as "Why do you people post comps ... " There has to be an element of unselfishness to it, I know there are people who find and enter comps and don't post them (some of those people also choose to "brag" about the wins they get from them on the Winners forum) and it does pi$$ me off a bit, if everyone was as selfish as those people then there would be no competitions on here, at all. So, by posting something that's not already here you're kind of saying "Thanks" to those that do post as you may have provided them a comp that they otherwise wouldn't have had the chance to enter, you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours type thing.

Going off at a tangent a little. I have noticed that often when people announce they have won a comp there are some who do not name and thank the op. I know sometimes you can not find it so if that has ever happened to me I have put it out there and quickly someone here has let me know who to thank. The OPs are really nice people and deserve to be named.
Sometimes it is not always clear as to which thread/poster a win can be pointed to.This can be so when the same prize is posted via may titles eg: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5111323
We then get in to the madness that is that certain posters know as to which thread is the win via but will not post as such for reasons only known to them.
Plus there are so many comp portals eg HUKD etc that the win may have come from.:D

I noticed a recent win post that I had originally posted the comp thread that recieved zero acknowledgement. The entry field was so low & no other portal had listed the comp so it was plain to see that that the win was via my my post but the member posted re the win but made it clear that that the origin was unknown.

Plus the Thanks button has been debated many times on here & often times I just see no real answer, other than some never Thank certain posters for reasons that are never clear.Plus some never Thank anyone as could be be seen on the MSE Thorntons comp .

    Answering the original question:

I have no real idea why I do post comps.

Maybe it is a diversion or a pastime.

Maybe it is a race or a hide & seek type challenge to find new comps?

Funny, over the last year I've seen at least 20 twitter comps that have ended that haven't been posted on here and noticed a few names from here that have entered them.

Why not posted? makes you think eh!

Ditto, you think oh must have missed that and then...no!

I post to help out and always great when people win from them. I appreciate everyone who posts comps as otherwise I'd miss tons, and miss out on some great wins Ive been lucky enough to have had. A big thanks one and all! :T

I could be one of those. If I was on twitter on my laptop, and saw a twitter comp that I thought had not been posted, I would search for it and post it, but there are times when I do not have access to a computer and spend a few minutes on twitter on my phone, entering competitions. There is no way I would ever attempt to search MSE and post using my phone. This could be just one explanation. I am sure other people have their own reasons.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they do! I'm just wondering why it's in anyone's interests to post about comps and their answers on here, and reduce their own chances of winning!?

lol :D could be maybe it's because we/they just
enjoy posting comps & sharing for everyone when
    they/we find them
& it's always a great feeling if someone wins a comp
from one you've posted be it a little or big win :T:j
    it's a hobby & a fun one :D whether posting
comps/entering them or helping out add other
bits & pieces for info & as Smamfer says :T
it's also the other things peeps do on here behind the
scenes which keeps mse a great place for sharing &
    helping each other
