Hi all,
Great site!!!
I'm new at all this!
My query is this;
up to 5 years ago, (my credit was blemish free -never had a loan, credit cards paid in full etc) had a 'mother of all rows' with daddy, resulting in me changing my surname to that of my mum's surname. The name change was effected throught a solicitor etc.So i guess i have a new name(only the surname part).During this time i did not need to apply for finance help.
Now- 5years later i do need to apply.have been turned down. does the name thing affected it???????? what can i do0 -
Hey the free 30-day trial with Equifax is a bit sly .... I called to cancel (10 days to go still) - and they said I could only cancel the day before the trial ends!
I think they want people to miss this 1-day cancellation window and BAM, they charge you!0 -
hi, I have just signed up to experian to view my rating, if i were to apply for credit, does anyone know what the company providing me with credit would be looking for?
my rating seems fine but Next have given a default in 2004 and a red 8, altho the account was settled and says 'satisfied'
I also have a few late payments listed with other creditors
But other than those all payments are up to date and paid on time for the last yr.0 -

I am new to the site and am currently trying improve my poor credit rating. I have obtained my credit report from 1 of the CRA's and viewed the info held.
My credit report states I have a default from 2003. I am sure this is a major contribution to my current credit status as 'poor'.
Over 2 yrs ago, I was having problems making payments on a credit card and made an arrangement with the credit card company to pay £100.00 per month until the balance was clear. The next thing I know a debt collection agency is contacting me requesting the £100 per month. I was not credit aware back then and didn't realise that this would have an effect on my future credit rating/obtaining credit(stupid I know but I was young and foolish) so I just paid the £100 per month until the balance was clear.
My credit report now shows that there was a partial settlement made, showing as satisfied. I was not aware that I was only paying part of the amount outstanding - As far as I am aware I was paying the full amount.
I have written to the cra and the lender. The lender has advised me that the information is correct and basically there is little I can do about this bar waiting 6 years for the information to 'drop off' my report. The cra has advised they cannot amend or delete info without authorisation from the lender - catch 22!!
I have written to them on a number occasions disputing this and asking that they clairfy/recitify the information and amend or delete as appropriate. My partner and I will be having our first child soon and are hoping to move house next year and I am very concerned that this will effect our chances of obtaining a mortgage (my partner has an good credit record/rating, however as we currently live together we are now financially linked. His name is on our mortgage at the moment, but as we are hoping to move to a larger house lenders may not be willing to give him, solely the amount we require.)
Can anyone help me or advise me what I can do to either
a) get the default info either removed or amended or
b) any tips on how to improve my credit rating would be greatly appreciated or
c) does anyone out there know if my partner could be the sole applicant on a mortage application with me as a contributer but not actually on the mortgage as such (if I provide a letter from a financial advisor stating this)
I have recently obtained a barclaycard which I intend to buy my christmas presents with and then clear the full balance immediatley - to try and improve my rating.
I have also cleared a substancially amount of my debt and with the remainding amount I have jiggled the balances about to get the best rates - through balance transfers etc. Hopefully I will be 100% debt free by nexy May.
AnY help or comments would be most greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Ally
this is my situation too, (c my last post)
would getting some catalogues and ordering small amounts but paying them immediately improve my rating?
How did you get on ally01?0 -
Just a couple of points:
-Experian has always maintained clear links to its £2 credit report service on its UK homepage (https://www.experian.co.uk) - unlike some of the other CRAs. Any criticism to the contrary is totally misplaced.
-You only see you own financial info on your credit report, although it will show the names of anyone you are linked to. If they, or anyone else, want to see their own financial details then they have to apply for their own reports. This includes husbands and wives/partners etc.
-CIFAS info shows known or attempted frauds and is not strictly speaking financial information. Therefore, CIFAS info about a third party can appear on your credit report. This info just warns lenders to take care, helping protect them as well as us. The rules of CIFAS absolutely forbid the refusal of credit applications due to CIFAS information appearing. It is just not relevant to credit risk.
-Cancelling CreditExpert membership: as long as you contact the CreditExpert team before your 30-day trial is up, you won't be charged. Contact details for membership services are in the 'contact us' section at the foot of just about every page of the website.

Anyone know any solutions??
The other 2 agencies - Equifax and call credit offer something similar, so you can use all 3 (although they won't necessarily have ALL your details as different lenders use different agencies).
The only thing you can do after that is to pay £2 for the statutory report.
Unless you are stoozing or something you really shouldn't need to do it that often.0 -
Hiya. I have been trying to get a copy of my credit report, but I have never had a credit card so experian equifax etc aren't helping as they ask for my credit card number on their website before releasing report. Is there any other way to get my report?
Thankyou, Barry.0 -
