Great site!!!
I'm new at all this!
My query is this;
up to 5 years ago, (my credit was blemish free -never had a loan, credit cards paid in full etc) had a 'mother of all rows' with daddy, resulting in me changing my surname to that of my mum's surname. The name change was effected throught a solicitor etc.So i guess i have a new name(only the surname part).During this time i did not need to apply for finance help.
Now- 5years later i do need to apply.have been turned down. does the name thing affected it???????? what can i do
often lenders will ask if you have used any other name's in the past 6 yrs. if they don't ask, tell them. it may also be worth writing to the CRA'S with the details of the changesThe views expressed on this website, be they in text, pictures or sound, are my own personal views. Not those of my employer, its staff or colleagues.0 -
Hi there, Following Martin's guide to how to obtain your credit report free, I duly sent for the report got sent the pin number and accessed the report...brilliant.....however, when it comes to cancelling so your card won't be billed it's not as easy. I have e-mailed the customer services at Experian today to be told it will take them at least 8 working days to look into my request to cancel my membership so I won't be billed. Beware of this little catch.....if you've left it awhile in the 30 days to check you could get stung by this. 8 days to check my record by a "specialist credit manager" Think it's a sneaky way to enable them to charge you the fee anyway.0

I signed up for the 30 day free trial with Experian as on the website it stated it would give "instant access" to my credit report. Only after entering my details did I find out this was not the case and I would have to await a PIN in the post.
I canceled my membership well within the 30 day period via email and got an email confirming it had been cancelled.
I then got another email from them saying they had collected the monthly fee! I sent a second email with a copy of the first and got a further email saying my membership would be cancelled forthwith.
I got my credit card bill yesterday and guess what - Experian have taken for the monthly fee. I rang barclaycard straightaway who say they will refund the fee and will take it up with Experian if they attempt to collect any more money. However, they cannot cancel a direct debit from my credit card on my instruction, as it is a "guaranteed means of payment"!
I will never ever use my credit card again for a repeating payment like this, I had no idea I could not cancel it myself with the credit card company like you would if it was from a current account.
To cap it all I just tried to phone Experian using the 0800 number listed on this thread - and its engaged.
Words fail me.0 -
hi,
i registered with experien and after loggin in with their pin (mailed) i went into credit library section to see my previous credit and it just says that i have none!
I mean i registered and to be hones ti cannot see anything on their website? It may sound stupid but how do u get about checking your credit, etc.
Thanks.0 -
Going back to a couple of other peoples questions within this forum.
Does anyone know how to improve your credit rating/score.
Have applied for the report and have found three satisfied defaults on my file. My mortgage company now want written confirmation of how these occured before they make a decision with regard to my application for a further loan of £10,000 on my mortgage.
I am sure this will also affect any other applications for credit so I need to improve my score.
Any help would be appreciated.0 -
how do u get about checking your credit, etc.
Have you actually ordered a credit report?
My memory is a bit vague because I used it over a year ago but I believe you will actually have to get it first before you can check it (at no charge).0 -
Hi,
hope no-one takes this as condesending but:
I also signed up to Experian's 30 day CreditExpert online report. After reading your threads above I decided to cancel well before the 30 day period ends. I've just contacted them (0800 656 9000), got straight through and cancelled (apparently without any problems). I even requested email confirmation on the cancellation and have been told that an email will be sent today.
Was also told that no charges will be taken from my credit card.
Good Luck
Cheers,

well im on hold to them again as I type.
just make sure you check your next credit card bill as they assured me they had cancelled the payment and it still went out of my account anyway0 -
Also,
I've just contact my CC company and explained to them that I have cancelled the account. They advised me to email Experian and confirm my telephone conversation regarding the cancellation. Apparently as long as I keep a copy of the mail they will chase Experian for any money it tries to collect.
It seems that an email is good enough proof that the account has been cancelled.
Cheers,
SHH0
