I got my details from Checkmyfile.com, considering they all have the same information there is a big difference between them regarding Checkmyfile scoring system.

Equifax 4 star rating score 854
Call Credit 3 star rating score 739
Experian 1 star rating score 531

I know for a fact that Experian give me a credit score of 871 (paid for their scoring service) so these scores are from checkmyfile.com not from the agency's themselves, checkmyfile say that because the details that are provided by experian are limited (no accounts history or credit records details) then that is affecting my score there.

so should anyone decide to use something like checkmyfile.com then you need to take into consideration that not all details are shared between this type of organisation, so you may end up having to get your records direct from the individual agency's any how, which I suppose defeats the whole point of having organisations like checkmyfile.com :(

Does anyone have any ideas as to the points scoring on an Experian form?

Such as : how many added points for an on time payment?
How many for an account being settled?
How many for a search coming off of record (through time)
How many lost for a search being added?

In a routine check I noticed T-mobile have added a default line (8) to my account. This was a case of a terminated account in credit that one day t-mobile decided to charge about 300 pounds for mistakes they said they made 2 years ago. There was some discussion on the account that I ultimately settled in protest (ie I paid but saying I did not recognise the charges as I think they are incorrect) and referred the matter to the telcom agency with a report.
While we were in discussion (not more than 10 days) they referred the matter to a debt collection agency and I settled withing 5 days of receiving a letter from them.

I am furious by all this. First they screwed up. Then they extorted money I never owed them and now I even discover they put a note on my credit file even after I paid them within 5 days.

Can anyone advise? I am prepared to take the strongest possible course of action against them including courts, BBC, anything.

Are you telling us that you paid £300 to a company for a debt that you did not even think was legitimate?

Your story above is a little garbled - or, at least, missing in several important details.

What was the timeframe of all this. i.e Account closed, Charges added, Charges paid, Note added to Credit file.

What happened with your report to the 'telcom agency' (Ofcom?)?

It never ceases to amaze me the number of people who pay money they don't believe they owe. I've even seen people on here recommend that you pay money you don't owe.

As lomg as companies get away with strong arming people into paying for their (the company's) mistakes, they will never tidy up their acts.

No, because before I enter into a contract I always read the T&C's first...
Oh, so you're the one :D

    Thanks.

This is a very long story. Very briefly:

Account closed around March. Credit shown (multiple line rentals and mix of credit card and direct debits). Asked the money back in July, promised to be sent asap. Then again in August, promised money asap. In Septmber I got a revised bill with over 400 pounds of charges, not at all explained (one liners for 200 pounds each as "adjustment") and notice to pay asap.
Lots of queries (paying an 0845 to speak to them) resulting in them saying their records of 2003(!) were incorrect and I had the line rental credited back twice, which I dispute. Back and forth twice by letter (they don't respond very quickly), we come to November, I sent them my third letter with my understanding of the events advising them I'd be away for 3 weeks.

When I get back it is late November and I find the notice from debt collectors. I speak to them and I am told they will put it on hold for 5 days otherwise they will put a note on my credit file. I speak to t-mobile (to be told the matter does not concern them anymore). Trading standards advise me "to pay in protest" by letter and cheque, which is what I did immediately and file a claim to dispute the charges.

Cheque sent end of November, ie 4 days after I got back. It was banked beginning of December and a credit note was apparently added to my statement in mid December.

Ofcom do not investigate complaints and say to refer to ADR.
ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) for T-mobile is still sitting on the case after 3 weeks of my complaint.
After discovering the credit note I sent another letter to T-mobile head-office. Still no answer.

It's all good and well criticising paying a bill you do not believe it is correct, but let's face it it's not a fair fight: they have a knife on you. They have teams of people who have nothing better to do but to follow up all these things, they access to credit records and no one likes to have default notices in his rating for all the consequences.

In my case, I was first exhorted money with a threat. I did not believe I owed anymore (and I am in dispute for that), so I paid in protest, and ended up (promptly!) getting a default note anyway.

I am still determined to see this through. If the ADR does not respond I will issue a small claims court against them.

Any advice much appreciated still at this stage.

Sorry, it wasn't really meant as a criticism. I may well be the one out of kilter on this.

I just resent the fact that someone like, say, British Gas, can use its computers and 'in house' debt collectors to attempt to bully people into paying money they don't owe.

It is well known that some of the largest mobile phone retail companies do this, insisting people have contracts outstanding when they do not, and threatening them that non-payment may harm their credit ratings.

It's a pity that this sort of behaviour seems not to be on the radar of our MP's and regulators, and that companies can continue to use these bully-boy tactics with impunity.

I'm glad you are intent on pursuing this.

    Please keep us informed.

It's OK - I apologise myself - my expression was unfortunate.

I agree entirely and thanks for advice - I'll post results here.

Any other suggestions please post here or pm. Thanks.

    Hi

I signed up for the 30 day free tial with experian about 12 months ago. I subsequently closed the deal within the 30 day trial period in the correct way and thus successfully cancelled.

I have recently tried for another 30 day free trial session but have been refused because my details are still held by experian and I'm not entitled to another trial.

Anyone else come accross this probelem??

    Anyone know any solutions??

    Cheers
