Accessed from the homepage, under "CONSUMER ADVICE", and entitled "ORDER YOUR £2 CREDIT REPORT" - but here's a direct link...

Two forms of original documentation (e.g. utility bill, bank statement, tenancy agreement, solicitor's letter) dated within the past three months.

Plus a copy of either your passport, driving licence or birth certificate.

  • This may be a very silly question bu forgive me I am new to this!

I have followed the guides to get my free credit report on experian, but when i get into it - what should I be looking at? on the account information all accounts show an indicator in the far left hand green circle (badly described I know)

I guess I'm just not sure what I should be looking at?
    Thanks

My husband and I have applied for a Capital One credit card with a low interest rate and have been turned down. We have never been bad payers or have done anything to give a bad credit rating so we can't understand it. The only reason I can think is that we have taken out about 4 or 5 different credit cards in order to use the 0% interest offers.

I have joined the 30 day free trial with Experian and from looking at it I can see no reason why we would be turned down as it shows that we are good payers and it shows nothing bad about us at all. I have paid for the other £2 Equifax report which will come through the post within the next week, but will it show anything different anyway?

Have you closed down these cards and ensured they have been marked as "settled" on your CRA reports?

If not, then the reason you have been declined could be that you have too much "available credit" on your report.

Close down and settle these cards and wait until they show as settled on your reports before applying for anymore credit cards.
  • I have 2 questions about this:

    1. With the 30 day free trials, can you access and print info immediately?

    2. If a husband and wife have independent cards, does one rating affect the other, or is each treated individually?

    Thanks in advance...

    1. Sometimes. You might be asked for more proof of who you are, if they have enough to verify you online then you can get immediate access. However, you will still require the security info they mail out to you so after your immediate online access you could be locked out until that arrives, make sure you get everything before the session times out and don't logout.

    2. If you have a financial association with anyone (spouse or not) then your ratings can affect each other. You are associated with anyone with whom you share an account. If you are associated with anyone it will be shown on your report.
