How to obtain credit reports

  • In my experience CallCredit hold very little info. My report had no searches and all accounts that were listed appeared on both Equifax and Experian too.
  • Has anyone else had problems ordering a statury credit report on Experian's website? I've tried a few times, but every time I get a message saying there has been an error and my card has not been charged.

I relly feel MSE should remove this link. It is impossible to access this online without eventually a having to call them at 5p a minute, repeat everything you completed online, you get asked for dates going back years and they expect you to post them hard copies A totally misleading link that I am sure MSE are not aware of the hurdles put in front of users. Can anyone advise of an online report that is painless and achievable !! Thx

Well that site is free. I wouldn't pay monthly just to keep checking on the report. It probably won't change that often.

Sorry to reply so late, but I as talking about scores.
I am not aware of anywhere that gives scores for free.

Maybe I am not getting it, but if you want your credit report, you sign up for a free trial, get your report, and then cancel - and no money is spent?

You can only sign up for a free trial once (generally although I have heard of one person getting a special offer).
IF you cancel in time no money is spent.
If you find it hard to call in working hours and can't spend an hour on the phone at a time then you might have difficulty.
    You also might forget.
Largely it's fine, but a few people have problems and if you go over the deadline you end up paying a lot.

Does everyone need credit cards, what about overdrafts? Mine is 1.6k from halifax

    Credit cards are good for

    1) section 75 protection (if company goes bust or does not deliver)
    2) budgetting during the course of a month (I never know how much I'm going to spend so it's hard to put aside money, it's much easier to take it from my salary once I know the amount).
    3) cashback or rewards
    4) insurances and warranties
    5) cheap and safe money abroad i.e. not carrying large wads of cash around
    6) business expenses where you get expenses paid in arrears.

So many good reasons for having credit cards without paying a penny in interest or charges (except for cash abroad).

Hi - I asked two companies, whom are reporting on my Equifax report, Cabot Financial and Hillsden Securities to provide copies of the CCA, it has now been a year since I requested them, Whilst Cabot have stated they are unable to provide a copy of the agreement they will still report on this, where as Hillsden kept sending me letters (upto November) saying we are still trying to get a copy from original lender.
Can I do anything now seeing as they can not produce this? One drops off in August 2011 and the other May 2012
  • Thx .... Gooooooooood
  • They do offer a one month trial but I have not used their service so cannot say if it is worthwhile, if anyone else wants to post a review please feel free

I ordered my Experian statutory report a couple of weeks ago by post, and it was pretty quick and painless.

They didn't ask for any documents, unlike the online system (I guess because it's posted to the listed address).

Yes the mailing process probably would be painless, they can then check your submissions at their leisure even if it was fairly quick in arriving ! Glad you got it though.

My ordeal may have been heightened due to three previous address's and multi lender information requirements. However, the objective of my post was regarding their claim of seamless online instant credit reports. And the fact that MSE, whom I trust totally, may not be aware of the pain in the online Experian process !! And that you end up through to a New York call centre when your frustration forces you to pick up the phone!!!!

I also note that no-one sems to have posted with an online report success story regarding this organisation's online instant credit report offer......

    Cheers
