How to obtain credit reports

Can any kind person answer the points above? Its a bit confusing looking at it all.
Status 0 - That means all your payments have been on time, no arrears = good.
Nil Balances = good
Dormant Accounts = No effect I would think.
If accounts have been paid off in full and closed, it will say settled and give a date. If it does not say settled, then it is still open.
Prospective lenders tend to look at the bigger picture, i.e. the amount of credit you have available as well as how much credit you are actually using. The availability of credit can go against you, but I would suggest it is also dependant to how much credit you are using plus how much is available and how much that totals as a percentage of your income.
Is that any help to you?Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

Can anyone please inform me which CRA does the Halifax/Bank of Scotand use?

Well, I have it now and I am so confused! Sooo many accounts I have had over the years - my God! None of them show up as anything dodgy, they are all settled and payments up to date. I have so many CCs and loans over the years, I am gobsmaked my Credit Score is 999! Quite ironic, I am a low risk person to lend money to...look at my debt.....
Couple of questions:-
1. All my statuses are 0, I assume that is good?
2. I have a fair few cards/accounts that have nil balances but can't see if they are still open or I have closed them. Where does it say that?
3. If any are still open, advantage leaving them open or shall I close them? Some people say you should close any dormant account and others say it helps you to leave them open! Confused!

I recently wanted to get a hold of my credit reference.
This was interesting....
Because, immediately after signing up for Equifax (free 30 day) with a very distinct Username (I do mean distinct) I went and signed up for an Experian credit reference for comparison purposes.
Heres the interesting bit :
I just used the same Username and password to keep it simple for me.
And got bumped with the message - "We already have this username on our records" Try another.....etc.
So after a puzzled moment or two, I eventually did.
But, I really really really do not believe the username I tried existed on the Experian database before I signed up to Equifax.
Which begs the question - are they using the same database?
Are they one and the same company?
Are they doubling the profits by kidding on they are independent credit reference agencies? I think we should find out.
I'd like someone to try and replicate my experience - sign up with a very very distinct username and see if they get the same result.
I'm going to try again after I have cancelled my 30 day trial.
Please let me know if anyone has any info on this. Thanks guys0 -
Betyboop,
I have just done this, you need to call them on 0800 656 9000 and tell them you wish to cancel. they should do it straight away.
Does anyone know how i can start my own thread - i have a recent enquiry about the CRA's

Hi can anyone help.......
I have checked Experian and my report shows two defaults that i was aware of, the other two are not on there! i have updated all my addresses and also checked that the bank use Experian which they have confirmed they do. So whats happened to these defaults? they are still within the 6 year termination period and are not settled yet, i have however agreed repayment terms with a collection agency and have kept up religiously with the payments for over 4 years. Very strange, i cant imagine that they've dropped off?

You get a physical checkup from the doctor once a year and a dental checkup twice a year, but just how often should you get a financial checkup? Just like a physical from the doctor reveals steps you should take to improve your health, a financial checkup helps you figure out how you can improve your finances. Checking your credit report is one way to decide what needs improvement.
A lot of advice on the internet says you should check your credit report once a year. This is a good rule of thumb for someone with good credit who isn’t opening a lot of new credit accounts each year. But, like many rules, this one doesn’t fit every circumstance. There are other triggers for checking your credit report.
I hope this one shall help you..

Hi all,
I'm trying to get my credit reports as advised in Martins article http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/ban...g-credit-score I have signed up for all three and intend on cancelling before the 30 day trial is up. CreditExpert was by far the easiest. I am having trouble working out how I can get anything free from Equifax... where do I go from signing in as everything seems to cost?

Can anyone help me with some advice?
Every time I go into my high street bank to deposit some money, they see that I don't have their credit card, and ask me to apply for one. The cashier has in the past told me that having a credit card will improve my credit score. I'm not interested in having a credit card and I have never had one, but if it will improve my credit score I am willing to apply for one and just leave it at the back of my wallet!
Does anyone know whether the cashier is correct or if they are telling tall ones?
Thanks.0 -
As far as I know having the credit card would improve your credit score as long as you don't have the urge to use it! If a card is paid for regularly and up-to-date then I would have thought it would help, but don't quote me on it!
Are you thinking about improving your score when it comes to applying for a mortgage etc?
I also need help, I'm a bit of a 'card tart' but am having trouble getting a new 0% balance transfer card? I've never had trouble before and have just checked my credit score and it's 999 out of 1000 (which is good)! My last 2 applications have been refused though?0
