I also received a text from 3 stating that they wanted to speak to me, however I am not on the 'one plan' ........

I'm currently on a 'Ultimate Internet 200' plan, I get:

    -200 mins
    -5000 SMS
    -All You Can Eat Data

This is a 1 month rolling sim only plan.

Anybody on a similar plan who's spoke to 3 yet?

    Regards.
    Mike

I'm on the same plan (paying £12.90 per month). No text yet from 3.

Have you and your son had the text aswell?

    Regards

No but I'm expecting it from what you've said. I'll probably just stick a pay as you go sim in my phone. I don't really make phone calls on my phone. Rarely send texts. I use loads of data though.

have received the text this morning and called them. after 1 h wait was told that they are cancelling all 'One plans'. and they will switch me to a new according to my usage in 60 days from receiving the text (i.e. from today). I can change to any other plan or leave 3...
That's annoying. I also got the text on a monthly rolling contract but haven't rung yet. Use about 30gb per month tethered as sole internet access, so need to find separate broadband and mobile alternatives and leave three.

I don't understand the rationale for unlimited data on a phone, but limited via tethering. Data use is the same (ex windows updates etc) and with 4G phones it's likely mobile-based data use will accelerate much faster than home-based.

My max 3G tethered speed is only about 3mbps anyway so switching to a 4g phone would likely increase not decrease data use. So I don't now trust three to stick to proposed mobile ayce terms anyway.

    No text for me yet

my tethered usage is around 6GB a month, but last month had a spike of 22GB as I was moving house and sky BB got cut off 2 weeks before I moved out.

2 year contract One plan that came with phone, July 2013 to 2015

Customers like you are probably one of the main reasons Three have done this...

So, this is down to me then.

I signed up to a contract with 3 for two years purely because they were offering unlimited data for tethering. They were the only company that offered this deal. The One Plan cost me £35 a month plus an HTC One smartphone.

I know of at least three staff members in my local 3 shop who are also on the One Plan and are regularly using 300 gb a month downloading movies.

So, you are saying that after shopping around for a good deal so that I could tether, I shouldn't use it.

Its like buying a car and then not putting any petrol in it, Idiot

No wonder Three's data speed drops to virtually nothing in some locations during the evenings and weekends. How do you and your mates in the local shop expect any network to dish up all those movie downloads? The sooner the better they put a 4GB per month cap on all the Three contracts, then we can all have a better service.

to be honest 4gb limit is too low if moving plans from unlimited, reasonable data should be upto 10gb for tethering but 300 gb is way too much abuse man, i do also upload 10GB sometimes but at off peak times after 12 midnight. The only reason i upload heavy data at midnight using 3 sometimes was because of upload speeds are very fast and can give upto 25mb where as my fibre optic wont five more than 3mb.

The only disappointment what i can see is my loyalty discount will go once i am end of contract , i am not much worried about loosing tethering.

Personally I think the tether limit should be 20GB (thus matching EE on their second-to-top plan) - expandable by 5GB chunks at a tenner a pop.

More than fair and would still release a HUGE amount of bandwidth.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

good riddance. people can now use google maps or use uber when they're out and need mobile data, instead of having hoarders like you and three staff downloading hundreds of gigs of !!!!!! a month. use your home broadband.

I would have been quite happy with them limiting it to about 20-30gb, but 4gb is too low to make it worthwhile. Some of us don't have home broadband due to being in rentals etc where not always possible to commit to 18 month contracts.

But guess I'll have to shop around now, again. I don't think it has much to do with tethering, it's about marketing the 4G network and likely coming spike in data speed and use. When everyone can sit on the train streaming movies I doubt they'll keep the unlimited mobile data pledge either.
