Somewhat late to the party but big congratulations :D

  • Thank Gallygirl!

We found a friend of a friend who is a painter. He is coming round today at 10am to price up. Fingers crossed it's within the budget we have mentally set. I really hope he can start soon. All our rooms are either empty and just been plastered or full of the empty rooms furniture. Our kitchen is pretty unusable. We can just get through the door and to the sink. We've kept everything as is until the painter comes just in case he can start soon. I will keep you posted.

Savings are going really well. DH got paid and I just claimed £284 credit refund on gas and electric for this bill! So that went straight to savings and £50 off the CC.

We have also decided not to extend after talking to two builders (DH dads friends) who both said if we plan to move sooner than later it's not worth the money. So we are going to refit it and get a short bath. That way it's good enough for me at 5ft2 and bathing a baby but will be much cheaper. Next stop see who can help fit a bathroom!

  • Painter came round we showed him our empty newly plastered bedroom, living room/diner and hallways and stairs. He wrote lots of notes then txt later quoting for only the stairs. When DH asked what about the other rooms he said he would have to come over again to price up properly! Now what I want to know is what was he writing when we were in the living room/diner and bedroom?! Needless to say we have decided against that person. We have two other numbers: a different friends friend and DHs uncles friend. Fingers crossed they are more organised/less ridiculous people!

Had our early scan and saw our lovely strong baby. We had a our dates moved on a little which has relaxed me a little. My fear is it's not growing but that's obviously not the case at this stage.

We are ordering our bathroom suite today and trying to get a plumber out to price up fitting the bathroom and a new boiler. Our boiler last winter kept failing if it rained which was a concern, not to mention inconvenient when you needed a wash and there was no water.

  • Also forgot to mention did the usual £400 OP this month.

Also have the plasterer coming back for one more day to sort the fireplace. DH has ripped out the massive surround which took up too much living room and narrowed the area. To save space he has chipped out space in the fireplace to bury the cables and plaster over. The TV provider box etc can now sit in the newly exposed fireplace and make it all look a little more tidy.

  • Lots of money going out at the moment so I've just listed my first item in months on eBay. Let's see how that does. I'm also scanning the rooms like a woman possessed for more items!

  • As always plans change about 10 times before we finally settle on anything. It's the age old wanting an easy life (pay someone to paint) vs. not wanting to spend the money (do it ourselves). After two quotes that were more than we were prepared to pay we have given in and started painting the house ourselves yesterday.

We have two bathroom fitters coming round this week to price up. DH is ordering the suite this week. We have started looking at tiles as well to see what's about.

I'm the most tired a person can be so am being of little help at the moment. Luckily for me DH seems happy I'm resting up so I don't feel as guilty.

Our eBay item went for £62 in the end which was brilliant. It's been spent on paint already. I'm building up to selling more! It's a slow process :p

  • Thank LIL we've had a look on eBay and unless the bathroom fitter thinks he can get it cheaper we think we are going with a eBay suite. Waiting on quote from 1st bathroom fitter and waiting on 2nd bathroom fitter to come round.

Hoping to have painting of the living room complete by this weekend so that part of our life will be back in order. I'm starting to lose patience with our house being up in the air. It's very difficult to even get a plate out the kitchen cupboard at the moment. I did however manage to bake a 4 layer chocolate and caramel ombre cake for DH bday this week. I got my sister in to help me because of the kitchen mayhem. Very pleased with that. I then had to ask him to take it into work because it was the sort of cake I could eat and eat and eat.

DH got paid this week and had worked nights so £830 to the 'before the baby comes plans' account.
    Things that account covers include:
-Paint living room/diner, hall and stairs and bedroom,
    -Carpet upstairs and stairs,
-New bathroom suite and fitting costs,
-All items new babies need (cot, Pram, etc),
-Money to top up maternity money (we think DH will only get statutory paternity which we couldn't afford so saving so we have more for when he is off and also so I can hopefully have close to 9months to a year off)
-Finally a car to replace DHs van when we have a baby we think it may become difficult with car juggling plus once all the home renovation is complete DH will no longer require a van.

In the plan I've allowed for not saving a penny over Christmas and new. Year because I know these are expensive weeks. I've also assumed we will need to stop saving 8 weeks before due date, mainly to reduce any stress. Then any money saved after that point is emergency fund.

There is a lot to think, plan, plot and budget for at the moment!
